Started playing soccer competitive at 10 years old for Grove United FC in Illinois. Played with the club for approximately 6 years right before I went to high school in 2010. I switched clubs to play for Jean-Pierre Tokoto, who played for Cameroon at the World Cup in the 80’s, at FC Tokoto until 2014. In high school at Adlai E. Stevenson, I captained the sophomore boys soccer team to an undefeated seasons and went to play for varsity at the beginning of my junior to senior year. I played collegiate soccer at Elmhurst University for 4 years and travelled with the soccer team to France and Spain to play second tier academy teams. They were given homework and did it all which gave them goals to work toward during the summer. Our oldest son even made a club soccer team for the first time after training with Coach Roger. When I work with kids, I make sure the sessions are super fun, energetic, and imagination-based. I turn drills into games and stories — like dribbling through lava or escaping from sharks. I keep instructions really short and use lots of demonstrations, because young kids learn more by seeing than by hearing. The focus is mostly on building coordination, basic ball control, and most importantly, confidence. If they’re smiling and moving, we’re winning.
