About your soccer coach

Hi! I'm a passionate soccer coach with over 16 years of playing experience and 3 years of coaching experience. I've been in love with "the beautiful game" since I was 5 years old, and that passion still fuels me today. I currently coach at CCV and continue to play in competitive 11v11 recreational league in Tempe. My goal is simple: to help you become a better player technically, mentally, and physically. Whether you're just starting out, want to improve specific skills, or are preparing for competitive play, I’ll work with your unique goals to create a personalized training plan that gets results. I believe in developing well-rounded players and building confidence both on and off the field. I’m fluent in Spanish, which allows me to connect with and coach players from diverse backgrounds. Outside of coaching, I bring strong leadership and professional skills to the table. I recently graduated early from Grand Canyon University, earned my DASM certification, and have a proven track record of being hardworking, reliable, and driven by results. Let’s work together to take your game to the next level!

Carlos Granados
My son Carlos was part of the Poway Vaqueros Competitive Team where coach Ryan was an assistant coach. His coaching was professional, he was both strict and funny at times. I felt like all the kids loved him. I definitely saw my son Carlos grow as a better person on the field. When Ryan left my son was very sad that he wasn’t on the coaching staff and so was I. I am happy he reached out to me, to see how we are doing. I am honored to leave him this review.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWarm-up • Light jogging + dynamic stretches with your ball) 2. Ball Familiarity • Toe taps, inside-inside touches, pull backs • Roll the ball to them and have them stop it with different parts of the foot 3. Dribbling Drill • Cone zig-zag dribble • Time challenges: “Can you beat your time?
Lesson 11+Read the game • Make quick decisions • Keep building fitness Drills: • Mini rondos (you vs them) – keep the ball away • 1v1 pressure drills – can they turn, shield, pass? • Role play: “You’re a striker, beat me and shoot!”
Lesson 4-10Focus: • Shooting with different parts of the foot • Changing direction • Decision-making Drills: • Shooting at cones or targets: Encourage accuracy • Turns: Inside cut, outside cut, drag-back • 1v1 Defense/Attack: You play light defense, have them try to beat you
Lesson 2-3Focus: • Improve touches and movement • Introduce passing and receiving Drills: • Cone Gates: Dribble through as many gates as possible in 30 secs • Pass & Move: Pass to you, they move, receive again • Wall Passes (if you have a wall or rebounder) Challenge: Introduce simple juggling (drop and kick, catch)

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonGoals: • Gauge their current level • Reinforce technical sharpness and intensity • Establish baseline fitness and control Drills: • Dynamic warm-up with ball (fast footwork + touches) • Juggling Ladder: right foot, left foot, thighs, alternating • Tight Cone Box Dribble: multiple variations (inside, outside, sole) • Wall Pass Variations: 1-touch, 2-touch, moving after pass • Finishing Drill: Receive + quick shoot (right and left foot) • End with a 1v1 challenge round
Lesson 11+Game speed decisions • Composure under fatigue • Refine finishing and reading pressure Drills: • Pressure Box Drill: Small space, defend and attack immediately • Timed Shooting Challenge: Limited touches and time to shoot • 1v2 Situations: You play as defender and pressure them with another variable (like a cone defender they must avoid) • Vision + Reaction Drills: Call colors, numbers, or zones before they receive the ball
Lesson 4-10Create space • Movement off the ball • Pressing and recovery • Playing under pressure Drills: • Check In/Out Movement Drill: Sprint away, show to ball, control, pass • Directional 1v1s: Limited space, must beat defender and finish • Transition Drill: Win the ball, attack immediately (5-second counterattack) • Wall or Cone Passing Map: Move through zones like a real game scenario • Combo Play into Finishing: Simulate pass-layoff-shoot patterns
Lesson 2-3 Focus: • Strengthen weak foot in real-time play • Develop 1v1 attacking moves and defensive reactions Drills: • Weak Foot Juggling & Passing warm-up • Dribble + Finish (Weak Foot): Must shoot with weak foot • 1v1 Skill Combos: Teach and rep out 3 advanced moves (e.g. Elastico, V pull-behind, L-turn) • 1v1 Defending Drill: Angle, delay, time the challenge • Quick Turn + Shoot Drill: Back to goal, receive, turn, finish

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen I work with kids, I make sure the sessions are super fun, energetic, and imagination-based. I turn drills into games and stories — like dribbling through lava or escaping from sharks. I keep instructions really short and use lots of demonstrations, because young kids learn more by seeing than by hearing. The focus is mostly on building coordination, basic ball control, and most importantly, confidence. If they’re smiling and moving, we’re winning.

Working with teenagersWith teenagers, I raise the intensity and start mixing in more tactical thinking and decision-making. I still keep it fun, but now we’re introducing competition — like timed challenges or 1v1s — and I start holding them more accountable. I also explain why we’re doing a drill so they can connect it to game situations. They respond better when they feel respected and involved, so I try to talk to them like young athletes, not kids, and create a vibe that’s motivating but chill.

What you need to bringCleats, Water, and whatever else they would like to bring

What I can bringI can bring a ball, cones, poles, and a mini goal.
