My lifelong affair with the game has not only allowed me to master the nuances of golf but also share my knowledge with budding golfers. Over the years, I've honed my teaching skills having given well over 5,000 detailed lessons. My approach to teaching golf revolves around nailing the basics first, and then progressively moving onto the more intricate details of the game that fit your natural swing. As a former multi-sport athlete, I like to find a students natural athleticism and teach a swing that revolves around what works best for the student. Golf is hard to learn on your own. I teach out of a private golf simulator in Redwood City. If you're not familiar with a simulator, it's high end technology that captures every metric of both the ball and club. In my opinion, the golf simulator is the best way to work on your golf swing because you get so much more data than just hitting balls at the range. The simulator also includes a high speed camera that shows the club hitting the ball frame by frame. But mostly, it's just really cool and a lot of fun!

I am blessed to have the amazing opportunity to teach & instruct youth as well as adults of all skill sets. On top of being a life long golfer, my degree is in Biomedical Engineering so I have a deep sense of physics, anatomy, biomechanics & material science. During my undergrad, I played D-1 water polo and club soccer. Eventually, I shifted to CrossFit where I achieved the top 33% in the world my first time competing in the 2016 Open. From there, I found boxing as an outlet from the biotech startup world and was on track to compete at USA Master's level before COVID/SIP hit. Joby has been a golf instructor at Mariners Point since 1996. Joby was in charge of the Jim McLean Golf Academy at Mariners Point (Mariners Point Golf Academy) where he worked and trained under Jim McLean. Joby earned Jim McLean Master Instructor status. He has been voted a top 50 instructor in California by Golf Digest, and was also nominated for Teacher of the Year in the Northern California PGA section. Joby's teaching style is consistent with the Jim McLean system, following systematic guidelines and parameters for swing improvement. He believes every golfer is different and his instruction will always fit the student?s needs and goals. Video is included in all lessons.
