On top of being a life long golfer, my degree is in Biomedical Engineering so I have a deep sense of physics, anatomy, biomechanics & material science. During my undergrad, I played D-1 water polo and club soccer. Eventually, I shifted to CrossFit where I achieved the top 33% in the world my first time competing in the 2016 Open. From there, I found boxing as an outlet from the biotech startup world and was on track to compete at USA Master's level before COVID/SIP hit. As such, I bring to you a unique, motivational mindset along with a full bag of training tips and drills to aid you, build you up, or dial you more into this beautiful game of golf. Heck, I can even fit you into new clubs! I am here today because my grandfather survived fighting as a Navy pilot in Guadal Canal. So my golf life started on the course they retired on up past Sacramento after he was a surgeon/GP in Los Gatos and a member of La Rinc. It was there I learned to swing free using his old persimmons. When I grew into my body as a teenager, I casually wacked it around NorCal hunting those big birds. It wasn't until I was working that I started playing weekly. My self-taught low round is 76 with 23 putts. Luckily, I also have 2 Hole-in-ones (Ko Olina #12*, TPC Stonebrae #13). My GHIN was down to a (10), but being a single parent with 2 young daughters has interrupted that at the moment. *Rental clubs 😎

USGTF member Mike Givens is in his sixth year as the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Menlo College in Atherton, California. During his tenure at the NAIA school, Givens has led the men’s team to seven tournament victories, including setting tournament scoring records in five of them. Menlo was also ranked nationally for the first time as a program under his leadership. The women’s team has had an equally impressive run, winning six tournaments and seven players have been awarded as All American Scholar Athletes, including the highest Menlo College team GPA at 3.61 and ranked with the 10th highest team GPA in the nation. Givens’ players on either team include three who have been awarded as the Menlo College Freshman of the Year and two who was named the Golden State Conference Freshman Player of the Year. The women’s team has produced two All-Americans.

I teach out of a private golf simulator in Redwood City. If you're not familiar with a simulator, it's high end technology that captures every metric of both the ball and club. In my opinion, the golf simulator is the best way to work on your golf swing because you get so much more data than just hitting balls at the range. The simulator also includes a high speed camera that shows the club hitting the ball frame by frame. But mostly, it's just really cool and a lot of fun!

Joby has been a golf instructor at Mariners Point since 1996. Joby was in charge of the Jim McLean Golf Academy at Mariners Point (Mariners Point Golf Academy) where he worked and trained under Jim McLean. Joby earned Jim McLean Master Instructor status. I've worn numerous hats in life: sportscaster, franchise owner, marketing professional, jazz musician and now a Master teaching golf professional. A lifelong athlete (baseball and hoops), I started playing golf in my late 20's. I developed a passion and love of the game studying it and achieving success over time. Taking a chance on myself, I pursued teaching in my 50's. It was the best decision of my life. Having learned the hard way (pre-YouTube era and as my own coach), my goal is to teach you the best fundamentals and cut your learning curve way down so YOU can enjoy this game sooner than later! I have lived in Northern California since 1995 and am the proud father of a son, step-dad to two great kids and now grandfather to a beautiful boy born in 2023. A successful collegiate assistant and head coach, as well as a professional player, Andrew Larkin just wrapped up his third season leading the Santa Clara men's golf program. Larkin's Broncos had a successful 2023-24 campaign, winning their first team event title since 2017-18 by dominating the competition at the White Sands Bahamas Invite. The Broncos shattered the school record at the event with a 54-hole tally of 45-under 273-277-269--819. Graduate student Muzzy Donohue earned All-WCC honors and became the first Bronco since Matt McCarty in 2018 to earn WCC Golfer of the Month, doing so for the month of January. Santa Clara finished the season with a sixth-place finish at the WCC Championship. In 2022-23, Larkin's Broncos tied for fifth at the WCC Championship and qualified for the postseason by accepting an invitation to the National Golf Invitational. Graduate student Julien Paltrinieri had an incredible individual campaign, earning All-WCC honors and qualifying for the 2023 NCAA National Championship. He finished in the top-25 at the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional. In his first season at the helm in 2021-22, Larkin helped guide the Broncos to a fifth-place finish at the WCC Championship with senior Berk Harvey tying for seventh individually for the best finish by a Bronco since 2017. Larkin, hired in May 2020, spent the previous five seasons as an assistant coach with UCLA where he helped direct the Bruins to three NCAA Regional appearances, including a championship berth in 2018, under coach Derek Freeman. UCLA was ranked No. 25 nationally by Golfstat.com when the 2019-20 season was canceled. A professional player since 2012, Larkin was a finalist for the 2019 Jan Strickland Outstanding Assistant Coach Award. Prior to his time at the Pac-12 Conference school, Larkin spent three seasons as the head men's and women's golf coach at Occidental College, his alma mater. During his time at UCLA, the program produced eight individual medalists, a Ben Hogan Award final 25 selection, nine all-conference selections and four All-Pac 12 Freshman choices. He has demonstrated success in recruiting, helping sign the Nos. 3 and 5-ranked players in the country in 2016, two top 20 players in 2017, three top 35 recruits in 2018, and the 14th-ranked American and No. 11-ranked amateur in the world in the class of 2020. Larkin, who replaces longtime and recently retired head coach Rob Miller, has posted 12 professional tournament wins. He has played events on a number of pro tours and mostly recently competed in both the 2017 and 2019 PGA Professional Championship. As a collegiate player, Larkin was a four-time All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference Golf Team Selection and was the Olin Browne Most Valuable Player during 2012. He also served as caddie for former UCLA golfer Devon Bling at both the 2019 Master’s and 2019 U.S. Open and caddied UCLA players to the round of 32 at the 2017 United States Amateur, the finals of the 2018 United State Amateur, round of 64 at the 2019 United States Amateur A native of Los Angles, Larkin was a four-time All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference selection and two-time (2011 and 2012) Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar while at Occidental. During his time as head coach of the Tigers, he produced seven All-SCIAC selections and led the women’s program from 150th nationally in 2013 to No. 35 the following year. In addition, he designed and fundraised for a 2,500-square-foot on-campus practice area for the Division III program.

He went to university in Georgia and after a decent college career turned pro and played the mini tours in Florida, then the Australian tour and South African Sunshine tour. After a couple of years as a playing professional, he went through the PGA training in the UK and became a teaching pro at Blackmoor GC in Southern England. Michael then took a job with well renown European Tour teacher, Jamie Gough at this golf school in Cape Town. Michael worked there for 3 years before moving to Europe and spending 8 years teaching in Germany and Switzerland before moving to America. Michael also spent time caddying/managing on the European Tour in the 2005, he has done 3 TPI classes through the Titleist Performance Institute as well as many other classes, courses to grow his knowledge.
