We’ll start with a detailed evaluation of your surfing, either in real time or with pre recorded clips, so we can pinpoint your strengths and areas for improvement. From there we’ll set specific performance goals and begin working on high impact adjustments like shoulder alignment, stance refinement, and body positioning to unlock more power and flow.

If you have a surfboard that you’d like to learn on, I’d encourage you to bring those to build familiarity with your board! Otherwise, I do have some equipment you can use, but I’ll need you to reach out to see if they’d be the right fit for you.

Water can be cold. Now that summers here we can get away without wetsuits but if you get cold easy I recommend renting one. I have all the boards necessary for any skill type All you need to bring is a towel, swimwear and a water bottle is recommended. I have face sunscreen designed for surfing Rash guard can be provided, but not necessary. I personally wear a regular t-shirt in the water when I’m surfing in boardshorts and want to prevent rashes.

Students are responsible for bringing or renting their own wetsuit. I can recommend local rental options if needed.

Working at summer camps as a water ski instructor and lifeguard, I have experience teaching children water sports. For kids, it is very important to choose equipment and surf conditions that are suitable not only for their age but their skill level and water competency. Just as important though, is making them feel secure and confident throughout the lesson. Therefore it is key that the parent or guardian work with me to tailor the lesson for their child(ren).

For younger surfers, the focus is on building comfort in the water and having fun while learning the basics. We’ll play simple balance and paddling games, catch small waves together, and celebrate every ride. Safety is always the top priority, and every session is designed to keep kids smiling while they gain skills and confidence.

For kids, the lesson focuses on safety, fun, and confidence building while gradually introducing surfing skills. Start on the beach by explaining simple ocean safety rules such as staying aware of the board, covering their head if they fall, and always listening to the instructor. Show them the parts of the board and demonstrate how to safely carry it and attach the leash. Practice paddling and the pop up on the sand first so they understand how to stand up before going in the water. In the ocean stay in shallow whitewater where it is safe and controlled, helping them paddle and pushing them into small waves so they can focus on balance and standing up. Encourage them often and celebrate small improvements so they build confidence while learning respect for the ocean. The goal of the lesson is for kids to feel safe in the water, have fun, and begin developing the basic skills of paddling, standing up, and riding small waves while learning good surf etiquette and ocean awareness.
