Beginner training plan
Your first lessonMy first lesson plan will start out with the player starting at one elbow running in a circle around where I will be passing them the ball (middle of free throw line). After making 10 on both elbows we will go through a warm up stretching series. Depending on the player the lesson plan may be different, if Iām training a post player we would typically start out with Mike and drill just making layups on both sides of the basket but having the correct footwork. We will do 20 of those each side reversed and counter move added, on the block post moves 10 each move. 10 shots in each spot and 10 free throws in a row before leaving.
Lesson 2-3Lesson two will be more intense so we will have our elbow shots warmups and series stretch. First drill will be exaggerated post ups, this will mean the player needs to post outside of the block and make a move to the basket just using one dribble and one move. After this defense will be added and after that we will work on counter moves. The first drill was to show how well the player uses their counter moves as is and now to teach them. You will dribble to the middle for a hook up and under to get the defense in the air. Another dribble to the middle then you can take a hook shot and go baseline. In all of this you will want to keep contact with your defender so that you know which way to play off of them. In this lesson we will implement cardio. So along with making 10 free throws in a row you can either play double or nothing or run and start from 0 again.
What you need to bringStudents should bring their shoes of course, water, and a great work ethic!
What I can bringI will always bring at least 2 basketballs, a ladder, a weighted vest, and a great attitude!
