How should I prepare for my lesson?
Updated
Preparing for your TeachMe.To lesson is simple. Whether you’re trying a new sport or returning to one you love, a little preparation helps you get the most out of your session. Coaches on TeachMe.To work with Students of all ages and experience levels, so don’t worry if it’s your very first time.
Here’s how to get ready:
Finish Your First-Session Checklist
If you bought lessons, a clinic, or a camp from your coach’s own website, you get a short checklist called “Before your first session with” your coach. It shows on your purchase confirmation and in your student dashboard. It has these steps:
- Sign in on the web or in the Student App.
- Schedule your first lesson. Clinics and camps have set dates, so they skip this step.
- Get ready for your coach. Answer your coach’s quick questions and sign their waiver. It takes about 2 minutes, and your answers save as you go.
- Get the Student App. This step is optional.
You answer your coach’s questions once. You are never asked them again for that coach.
If someone else needs to sign the waiver, such as a parent or guardian, choose Someone else needs to sign and enter their name and email. We email them the waiver, and you can finish the rest of the checklist.
Review Your Coach’s Instructions
Before your lesson, check the details your coach provided on their profile or in your booking confirmation. Your coach may include notes about:
- What to bring
- Where to meet
- Specific equipment preferences
- Safety considerations
- How they run their first session
If anything feels unclear, feel free to message them directly in the app. They’re happy to help.
Bring Water, Proper Gear, and Comfortable Clothing
Your equipment needs depend on the activity, but in general you should bring:
- Water to stay hydrated
- Comfortable athletic clothing
- Appropriate shoes (running shoes, court shoes, swim gear, etc.)
- Any equipment your coach requested
If you don’t own gear yet (like golf clubs, a tennis racquet, or a pickleball paddle), many coaches can lend basic equipment for your first lesson.
Arrive 5 to 10 Minutes Early
Showing up a few minutes early helps you:
- Find the exact meeting spot
- Warm up lightly
- Meet your coach without rushing
- Discuss goals and expectations
If your lesson is at a large park, facility, or driving range, that extra time makes a big difference.
New to the Activity? No Problem.
Most Students on TeachMe.To are beginners. Coaches are used to guiding first-timers and will adjust the pace, drills, and instruction to your comfort level.
If you’re nervous or unsure what to expect, just send a quick message in the app. Coaches are friendly, experienced, and ready to walk you through everything.

Enjoy the session, ask questions, and don’t worry about being perfect. You’re here to learn.
