Even the most advanced students, the most famous singers in the world, they all have teachers. For some advanced students taking lessons may just be about having a place and time to have structured practice of new concepts. There's always room to grow. For lessons of all levels and ages generally have the same lesson outline; we get into posture, lightly stretch, focus on breathing, humming, singing, reflecting on past goals and end with working on our rep. However as an advanced student if you already warmed up and want to spend the whole time focusing on your set for your big show, things will be more flexible. The first lesson is all about getting to know each other, easing into things, assessing strengths and setting goals. Also for more advanced players, more music theory and ear training drills are practiced. There are things like, "what are the fundamentals of singing" that I will randomly quiz you on! In a fun no pressure way of course. But I do hold more advanced students more accountable for more general music knowledge and not just vocal fundamentals.

Review the basics and basic understanding of vocal placement and its application for better pitch and accuracy. Gauge their current vocal ability and what they think they need to work on & set goals for how to achieve their ideal sound stylistically and artistically.

When working with children it's important to keep things fun. I create structure by having a routine each lesson; getting into posture, light stretching, breathing exercises, humming and some vocal exercises. I end every lesson with a song of the students choice, but I am able to offer more guidance in that area for kids if necessary. I am very gentle and sensitive to people of all ages and understand the responsibility not just to teach kids music properly but to be emotionally sendative to children. A bad experience with a teacher can be the difference between choosing music as a profession or never singing again.

I love working with kids and my lessons focus more on them finding music and songs they love to sing and less on technique. Technique will be incorporated over the course of time. Lessons should be fun, so they remain interested.
