In the first lesson with an advanced student, I focus on understanding their current vocal technique, artistic goals, and any technical challenges they are experiencing. We do targeted vocal exercises and repertoire work to assess breath efficiency, registration balance, resonance, and stylistic approach. The goal is to quickly identify strengths and areas for refinement, and to establish a clear, individualized direction for continued advanced study
In ongoing advanced study, the focus shifts toward mastery, artistry, and long-term vocal sustainability. We continue refining technical efficiency while expanding interpretive depth, stylistic versatility, and stage presence. Students work on high-level repertoire, audition and performance preparation, and developing a distinct artistic identity. My goal is to support singers in achieving freedom, consistency, and expressive depth while maintaining healthy vocal technique over time
Drills:
Students continue refining technique through increasingly individualized vocalises tailored to repertoire demands, focusing on efficiency, artistry, and performance consistency
From the fourth through tenth lessons, we deepen technical refinement and artistic interpretation across repertoire. Work includes advanced breath management, resonance tuning, vocal flexibility, diction precision, and stylistic authenticity across genres such as opera, art song, and musical theatre. Students also develop performance skills, including phrasing, emotional communication, and stamina, with a focus on preparing material for auditions, performances, or professional use
Drills:
* agility (fast scales)
* arpeggios across range
* vowel modification
* diction/IPA (if classical)
* resonance tuning exercises
* breath efficiency patterns
In the second and third lessons, we begin addressing specific technical and artistic goals identified in the first session. This may include work on breath coordination, register transitions, vowel shaping, agility, diction, and stylistic interpretation. We also begin refining repertoire choices or audition material, focusing on consistency, control, and expressive clarity under technical demands
Drills:
* vowel tuning
* registration balance exercises
* resonance adjustment work
