"I looked after three girls, all under the age of ten, as a previous summer nanny in Illinois. Stella, 4, and Laney, 6, were the two youngest who were familiar with swimming while using floatie devices. Their oldest sister was already proficient, and needed minimal supervision. While swimming that summer, Laney learned how to swim properly without floaties, and Stella learned how to swim with the use of floaties. Because I was only a summer nanny, I wasn't able to fully teach them all about swimming. Years later, they all swim proficiently due to previous techniques I had taught them and continued practice.
