About your basketball coach

I’ve played 3 years in the NBA, 5 seasons overseas (still playing). I played in all kinds of countries and have played with all kinds of professional athletes. I’m a Indiana University (Hoosiers) alumni. I’m also Boo Williams (Boo Williams Summer League) nephew so i been all through the AAU world too. I’ve trained kids in my free time during the summer and hosted a couple camps in my hometown, Hampton, VA as well.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonLearning the rules and teaching what the lines on the court mean. Learn the basics, lay ups, dribbling, shooting, etc.
Lesson 11+Should know all the vocabulary of basics, got Shang of the drills, should be more comfortable with the ball and ball knowledge and feeling more confident in themselves.
Lesson 4-10Start incorporating basketball dribble moves, shooting from further distances (depending on kids strength and comfortability in shooting), and trying new moves and drills to incorporate what’s being learned.
Lesson 2-3Shooting lessons and dribbling more to get comfortable and using vocabulary of basketball players when it comes to knowing the lines on the court.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonDo some drills to gauge everyone’s skill level. Maybe do some 1 on 1 drills , put in some pro drills , make workouts have a professional feel to them
Lesson 11+With enough people, we’ll be having 2 on 2, 3 on 3, 4 on 4, 5on 5 competition based things. Using the terminology and things you all have learned while playing and honing skills up as well.
Lesson 4-10Should have the swing of things, moving at game speed in drills, get a feel and start to recognize things on the court, starting of incorporating things I’ve learned from pros and my friends in the NBA and overseas nowadays.
Lesson 2-3I may even join in drills to give examples or to show how hard I’m working alongside everyone. Teach some pro terminology with everyone, show how to space out in the court, how to defend on the court and what to look for while on offense and defense.

Youth players
Working with kidsMaking sure they know the basics first. Whether it’s knowing the lines on the court to knowing what a lay up is or even knowing what a defensive stance is.

Working with teenagersMaking sure they understand that at this age, everything is being watched by colleges, scouts, sport ranking websites and all at their games. They need to understand the basketball side of course and i will be teaching that but i also want them to understand what they are getting themselves into with NLI deals coming alive and being a thing in today’s world.
