Beginner training plan
Your first lessonIn the first lesson, we’ll go over the basics of the forehand and backhand groundstrokes, including proper grips, swing path and body mechanics. If time permits, we’ll also begin to learn the serve.
Lesson 11+No player is complete without a strong front court game. It’s essential to learn how to hit volleys and overheads to close out a point. This can be scary for a beginner but it’s the most exciting part of the point once you know how it’s done.
Lesson 4-10Next it’s time to learn the serve. We’ll cover the stance, grip, toss, and racquet path to hit a proper first and second serve into the court.
We’ll also start to rally, first without and eventually with the serve. You’ll learn how to handle balls of varying heights, spins and directions to stay in the rally. The slice becomes an essential stroke to learn in order to handle difficult shots.
Lesson 2-3Next, we’ll learn to hit those groundstrokes on the move. We’ll cover some basic footwork patterns to ensure that we’re still able to hit with power and control moving forward or to the side.
