Beginner training plan
Your first lessonTeaching basketball terminology and places on the court. Teaching basic stretches and moves/fundamentals. Doing a few simple drills to gauge natural inclination for the sport (basic passing, layups, jump shooting).
Lesson 11+Again, depends on progress, varying all the aforementioned. I incorporate watching more basketball and studying certain players as we go. We will cater things to what you need. :)
Lesson 4-10Lessons 4-10 greatly depend on how 2 & 3 go. Gauging skill and progress - we build the fundamentals before getting fancy and moving into more complex movements/concepts. Agility work, strength training, and conditioning are usually incredibly helpful and integrated here also. I balance heavy skill work with some basic movement, balance, and strength work. Basketball is complex. I love Reggie Miller and Steph Curry conditioning shooting drills.
Lesson 2-3Based on skill level, the next two sessions will be evenly split between ball handling and shooting/finishing. Passing and offensive footwork will be incorporated with both. Definitely teaching varied layups, floaters, jumpers, and hook shots - working off of one foot and two. (The more varied shot options you have, the greater likelihood you’ll score consistently). Form shooting.
Youth players
Working with kidsI work with 10+ year olds that have played basketball at least for 1-3 years. I’m able to build off of what they know. I do my best to balance teaching, fun, and structure/discipline. Sports are great for kids. I love helping them recognize that basketball can be an incredibly thing for them. My youngest client a few years back adored 1-2 hour sessions. He progressed quickly.
