After receiving his first guitar for his 15th birthday, he spent a summer playing along to records by bands like X, The Clash, and Dead Kennedys. At 18, he joined Denton, TX, punk band The Riverboat Gamblers and embarked on his first national tour right after high school. In 2005, the band relocated to Austin, TX, where they currently reside. Over the next decade, Ian toured globally and recorded with The Riverboat Gamblers, who were named one of the 25 Greatest Live Bands by "Spin" in 2006.
