Sure enough, during my first tournament, when being called over the loudspeakers for my matches, the announcer yelled Danimal rather than my first or last name. I was embarrassed and couldn't believe it. However, while walking to the courts, everyone high-fived me and told me they loved the nickname. That weekend, I won a gold medal in Men's Singles, Mixed Doubles, and Men's Doubles completing a Triple Crown in my first tournament. Lo and behold, the nickname has stuck and is now forever

His father started him early, but not before he learned to caddie. Philip has traveled most of the world, and learned to play and compete in places like Guam and England. Philip has competed in several mini-tour events including the 1983 Space Coast Tour in Daytona, Florida. Since moving to Austin in 1984, he has qualified to play in four Nike events. His first Austin job was at Balcones C.C. and for a short while, Sun City. In 2000 he joined the Great Hills team and says "It was the perfect club at the perfect time." He loves teaching and is not shy about sharing his knowledge learned from Harry Cooper and Jimmy Ballard. These 3 fundamentals I will press to make sure it is understood by the student and easy to repeat each swing. The more the student understands the terms I use the better chance of them remembering what we did to fix a problem. If the player is technical, I will then switch my speaking and teaching to cater to their analytical side.
