My name is Dawson Phok. I am a Greensboro native and have been playing/studying the game of basketball for 15+ Years. I have experience working with and developing children into focused athletes through my work at the YMCA. I place emphasis on mindset, discipline, and detail in movement. I will make your child better on and off the court and teach the importance of consistency and longevity.
"My son just started and already loves it. He’s usually shy, but Coach Dawson made him comfortable right away. After just a couple lessons he’s dribbling without staring at the ball and actually wants to practice at home. I can already see his confidence growing.

I am a former collegiate and professional basketball player with a proven track record of leadership and performance. As a standout player and team captain at Elizabeth City State University in the CIAA, I led the conference in points per game during the 2014–2015 season and ranked #5 nationally in NCAA Division II scoring. Known for my dedication, work ethic, and leadership on and off the court, I served as both a team leader and mentor throughout my college career. Following graduation, I continued my basketball journey overseas, competing professionally with South Adelaide in Australia. These experiences have shaped me into a well-rounded athlete and mentor, passionate about developing the next generation of players through skill, discipline, and confidence. For three years, I served as the Middle School Basketball Coach at a public school in Guilford County, where I was responsible for leading all aspects of the boys’ and/or girls’ basketball program. I developed and executed structured practice plans that focused on fundamentals, conditioning, teamwork, and game strategy, while also preparing students for high school-level competition. I mentored student-athletes both on and off the court, promoting character, leadership, and academic accountability. My role as a coach included managing team operations such as coordinating tryouts, scheduling games, organizing transportation, and maintaining regular communication with parents, staff, and school administration. I collaborated closely with teachers and counselors to monitor academic performance and ensure that student-athletes met behavior and eligibility standards. Throughout each season, I emphasized the importance of discipline, sportsmanship, and personal growth, fostering an inclusive and team-oriented environment where every player could thrive. My experience fosters player development through tailored coaching methods. I strive to create an engaging, supportive environment where athletes reach their full potential.
"Starting off Coach helped me time my jumps for blocks, learn to use the right leg & hand for lay ups & helped me with my free throws.

Golf has been a part of my life for more than 3 decades. As an avid junior golfer, I won a club championship, made all conference my sophomore - senior year in high school. I was a part of 2 regional championship teams as well as an 11th place and 7th place finish in high school state championships. From a young age it’s been my passion. Now that I’m in corporate America being able to use my talents to help win numerous charity benefits and raise money for many great causes has been more than fulfilling. I’ve seen the game evolve from wooden drivers and shot shaping course management to now teeing it high and letting it fly. One of the best benefits about golf is not only can you enjoy the game your entire life but you can find satisfaction in the game no matter your skill level. So if you're just a beginner looking to dip your toes in the water, or if you’ve been playing golf for a long time and feel like you’ve plateaued and you’ll never get better, or maybe you're just tired of letting your buddies get in your wallet. Whatever the skill level, whatever the reason, I want to help you achieve the satisfaction and enjoyment that golf has to offer.
"Great coach and cool guy

My mother made me start playing violin at 3 years old. I started traditionally learning Suzuki in Buffalo, NY. I took ownership of the instrument in at 12 years old practicing after school and for cultural events. I have always taught musicians that were less skilled and would lead by example to further their understanding. With 30 years of experience, I guide students to find their own voice through the instrument. I tailor lessons to individual needs, fostering both technical mastery and a lifelong love of music.
"We instilled Discipline, Diligence and Focus during our practice sessions at home. Alex at years of age: Mommy, when can I stop practicing. Me: When you are 35 years old.
