Hey there! With five years of playing and coaching under my belt, I’ve competed in various tournaments and helped players at various levels improve. As a RPO and My DUPR coach certified instructor, I want you to improve your pickleball game without over complicating it. I specialize in simple, effective coaching that helps you play smarter, more effective and overall win more points while enjoying the wonderful aspects of the game. With over 25 years of experience in the game, golf has been a lifelong passion that has taken me from junior competitions to D1 collegiate golf and beyond. I played for Oregon State University and did not miss a tournament. Additionally, I have competed at the U.S. Girls Junior Amateurs twice (‘08, ‘09) and the U.S. Women's Amateurs twice (‘12, ‘14). My PR is 64 back in high school. After college, I competed professionally on the Cactus Tour in Arizona, where I secured a tournament win at -11. While in Arizona, I also found joy in teaching, working with kids ages 6 to 12 at the TopGolf Summer Academy, helping them develop strong fundamentals and a love for the game. I also have experience going to Q-School and made it to Stage 2 my first year. My name is Roberto. I was born and raised in San José, Costa Rica, and I came to the United States nine years ago to play college tennis. I graduated from Azusa Pacific University (nation's top 10 NCAA Division II school) with a B.A. in Business Management and served as the team's captain on my last semester. I have also coached beginner and intermediate tennis players of all ages in Costa Rica as well as several collegiate dual matches. Regarding my playing history, I have played tournaments in over 10 countries, obtained a junior international ranking, and reached a ranking of #8 in Costa Rica. As of this year, I started coaching pickleball and the experience has been no different! Concepts are very similar and time to raise level is actually shorter!

I’ve been playing pickleball for three years and competing at a high level in CAPA, iPickle, collegiate tournaments, and internationally. My journey with tennis began in childhood, playing with my grandmother, which sparked my passion and led me to join high school and college teams. Since then, I've maintained a regular schedule of playing several times a week. I've also enjoyed teaching numerous beginners, adept at starting players from scratch and guiding them through their tennis journey.

"I had such a great lesson with Roger! He taught me the fundamentals of the forehand, backhand, volleys, and how to hit a lob, but what really stood out was how much he focused on proper technique and the small details that make a big difference. One tip that really stuck with me was learning to keep my eyes on the contact point when hitting the ball, which immediately helped my consistency. Roger is patient, encouraging, and explains everything in a way that’s easy to understand, no matter your skill level. I left the lesson feeling more confident and excited to keep improving. This lesson might honestly be one of the reasons I hope to come back to San Clemente someday. I’d love to train with Roger again. Highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their game!
