Nathan knew we were beginners and gave us a little time to handle the paddle and ball (the first time we had touched either one) and made sure we understood the rules, etc. We had watched plenty of YouTube videos so he didn’t waste too much time explaining everything. Our first lesson was serving. He gave us plenty of time and instruction to try out different techniques. He was always encouraging but wasn’t afraid to say what he saw areas that we could do better in. Next we worked on receiving the serve. He gave us some instruction and time to feel it out. He gave us 2 different things to work this on and it’s up to us to take what we have learned and practice, practice, practice. We’d be fools if we thought only taking lessons is enough. We left with a good idea of what we need to work on ourselves this week if possible. Nathan was instructive and corrective but also gave us time to work out what works for us individually regarding how we are comfortable holding the paddle and the different ways to do it. Looking forward to our next lesson.
Nathan has a very strong background and understanding about the game. I appreciated the focus on positioning and hitting the ball correctly during the lesson. The repeated practice of volleying and serving from both sides of the court really helped reinforce the fundamentals, and I left feeling more confident about my technique. Still, I think reviewing what I learned from last time could help me improve even faster. Nathan's approach is quite straightforward and easy to follow, which makes practicing feel purposeful. If you're looking to build a solid foundation step-by-step, you might find it worthwhile to give him a try.
Hey, I found Nathan’s lesson quite helpful overall. Practicing the different paddle holding skills and foot angling really made a difference, and I appreciated learning how to better differentiate between hard and soft hits. The part about improving my serve by dropping the ball, pausing, and then hitting over the net was especially useful. Though I still need to revisit some techniques, I’m hopeful I’ll see progress with continued focus. I’d suggest trying Nathan if you’re aiming to refine your skills gradually.
