About your tennis coach

I’m the Director of Tennis at Hidden Hills Country Club and a former Division I player who’s turned a lifelong passion for racquet sports into building strong, engaging programs on and off the court. I work with players of all levels, from beginners picking up a racquet for the first time to competitive players looking to sharpen their game. My approach is simple: create a high-energy, positive environment where players improve quickly, build confidence, and actually enjoy the process. I keep things structured, but never boring. I’m also heavily involved in pickleball and enjoy helping players transition into the sport, develop solid fundamentals, and compete with confidence. Whether it’s a clinic, private lesson, or match play setting, my goal is to make sure players walk off the court better than they showed up—and ready to come back for more.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI focus on creating a positive and comfortable environment while introducing the fundamentals in a simple, engaging way. The first lesson is about building confidence, not overwhelming the player. I start with basic court awareness, grip, and contact point, then quickly get them rallying using cooperative drills so they experience success early. I emphasize feel and consistency over technique perfection, using clear cues and progressions. My goal is for the player to leave the first lesson having fun, understanding the basic objective of the game, and feeling excited to come back.
Lesson 11+Beyond lesson ten, training becomes more individualized based on the player’s strengths, goals, and style of play. The focus is on refining technique, improving consistency under pressure, and developing a stronger understanding of strategy and shot selection. Players will engage in more live-ball drills, competitive play, and situational training to simulate match conditions. The goal is to help each player become comfortable playing points, competing confidently, and transitioning into regular match play or club programming.
Lesson 4-10During lessons four through ten, players transition from basic fundamentals into more consistent rallying and point construction. The focus shifts to improving directional control, developing reliable serve and return skills, and understanding court positioning in both singles and doubles. Players will be introduced to more game-based scenarios, learning how to build points, recover effectively, and make simple strategic decisions. Consistency, movement, and confidence continue to be emphasized, with the goal of preparing players to participate in structured match play.
Lesson 2-3Lessons two and three build on the foundation established in the first session, with a focus on developing consistency and introducing movement. Players will begin to rally more intentionally, learn basic positioning, and start understanding directional control. I introduce simple footwork patterns, reinforce proper contact, and begin incorporating game-based drills to connect skills to actual play. By the end of the third lesson, the goal is for the player to sustain short rallies, recognize basic court positioning, and feel more confident moving and competing.

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with kids, I focus on making lessons fun, engaging, and active while building fundamental skills. I use age-appropriate equipment and games to keep them moving and learning without feeling overwhelmed. The goal is to develop coordination, basic technique, and a love for the game. I keep instruction simple and positive, using clear cues and lots of encouragement. Structure is important, but so is energy and creativity, so I incorporate games and challenges that help kids stay focused and excited to learn.

Working with teenagersWith teenagers, I take a more structured and goal-oriented approach while still keeping lessons engaging. I focus on refining technique, improving consistency, and introducing strategy, while tailoring instruction to their skill level and goals. I incorporate more live-ball drills, point play, and competitive situations to help them develop confidence and decision-making. Communication is key at this stage, so I work to build trust, provide clear feedback, and help them take ownership of their development.
