“Hi, my name is Veysel, and I’m excited to be your tennis coach! I’ve been coaching for 10 years, and it’s one of my biggest passions. My goal is to make these lessons fun, engaging, and tailored to help you learn at your own pace. Today, we’ll focus on the basics—getting comfortable with the racquet, learning some foundational techniques, and understanding the court. 1. Court Orientation
• Explain the basic parts of the court: baseline, service boxes, net, etc.
• Teach them how to hold the racquet properly, focusing on the continental grip or eastern grip, depending on the stroke being taught.
2. Basic Techniques
• Forehand & Backhand:
• Demonstrate proper stance, grip, and swing.
• Use slow, controlled motions and have them mimic your actions without the ball first.
• Racquet Handling: Practice short, gentle swings to help them get a feel for control.
• Footwork Basics: Teach the ready position and simple side-to-side movement.
3. Simple Drills
• Ball Tossing: Toss balls gently and have them focus on making contact with the center of the racquet.
• Drop and Hit: They drop the ball themselves and hit it over the net.
• Partner Rally (if possible): Keep the ball in play with gentle shots to build confidence.
4. Rules and Etiquette
• Introduce the basic rules, such as serving, scoring, and court positioning.
• Discuss tennis etiquette, like respecting opponents and keeping score fairly.
5. Positive Reinforcement
• Provide constructive feedback with encouragement. Highlight what they’re doing well and areas to improve.
• Celebrate small wins, such as successfully hitting the ball over the net or mastering a grip.
7. Cool Down and Recap
• Finish with stretching to relax the muscles.
