In the first tennis lesson, I will teach students how to warm up properly to get their bodies ready for movement. I will teach them the layout of the tennis court and how to identify key areas like the baseline, service box, and net. I will teach how to hold the racquet using the correct grip and how to stand in the ready position.
Now that students have developed a confident and consistent foundation, I will teach them how to play the full game of tennis with strategy, control, and purpose. I will teach how to combine all strokes—serves, returns, groundstrokes, volleys, and overheads—into match play. I will teach students how to structure points, create opportunities, and recognize patterns during rallies.
In this lesson, I will teach students the basics of the serve, starting with the proper stance, grip, and ball toss. I will teach the different phases of the serve, including the preparation, contact point, and follow-through. To build confidence, I will teach them to start with a simple, abbreviated motion before progressing to a full serve. If time allows I will start to teach the fundamentals of over head volleys.
