Beginner training plan
Your first lessonAssess the player’s experience, goals, movement, and basic technique. I introduce the fundamentals of grip, ready position, forehand and backhand while using simple hand-feed and rally drills. My goal is to keep the first lesson fun while building correct habits from the start.
Lesson 2-3Build consistency on the forehand and backhand and introduce proper footwork. We work on contact point, recovery, and controlling the direction of the ball through feeding drills and short-court rallies. I also begin introducing the serve and basic scoring.
Lesson 4-10Develop complete fundamentals, including groundstrokes, serves, returns, volleys, and movement. Players progress from controlled drills into longer rallies and point-play situations. We work on consistency, placement, court positioning, and learning how to construct a point.
Lesson 11+Training becomes increasingly personalized to the player’s goals. We refine technique, improve movement and consistency, and develop stronger serves, returns, and point construction. Players who want to compete will incorporate more match play, strategy, and situational drills so they can confidently apply their skills in real matches.
