🎯Return of Serve

🎯Serve

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI enjoy beginners because we get to start fresh without having to undo any previously learned bad habits. It makes the progression process evolve much more smoothly
Lesson 11+More advanced tennis trading during lessons.. Then, scrimmage matches with my other students at no additional cost. And then start planning which tournaments to sign up for
Lesson 4-10To be able to rally with ground strokes and serve the ball inbounds to start the process of playing matches
Lesson 2-3To be able to hit top spinning forehands and backhands

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonI like to spend 20 minutes watching match play against myself or a student of equivalent playing level. Then discuss what I noticed and what exactly the student feels like they need to progress on
Lesson 11+100+ mph first serve. Also, a good slice and a good kick serve. Proper footwork and body control for return serves. Good volleys and good drop shots And expect to be progressed to a level of 4.5-5.5 USTA ranking / 6.0-10.0 UTR
Lesson 4-10High level scrimmage match play for 30 minutes. Then discuss ways to approach raising our on court tennisIQ together as a team
Lesson 2-3Work on the agreed progressions and make sure we feel strongly growing as a team

Youth players
Working with kidsI have many years experience teaching orange ball and green ball players. We can start as early as age 3. And as late as age 86.. there is always something that can be improved on the tennis court. Teaching beginners youth tennis is my favorite experience in coaching. I really enjoy the dialogue and feedback from their thoughts and abilities and we grow stronger as a team through these lessons and learning one another.

Working with teenagersWith experienced teens I like to play a lot of scrimmage matches so we can implement the things we are working on together and test out various strategies for improving. And with beginner teens, I like to start with basic forehand drills until the ball starts coming off of their racquet with topspin while landing in because once they feel that part, the backhands come so quickly. It’s all uphill from there. The beginning stages become very fun when we are progressing so frequently (every lesson we grow and learn something!) and that’s a guarantee I like to stand by!

What you need to bringHydration, sweat towels, tennis court (or basketball court) shoes

What I can bringI provide all the necessary equipment for tennis practice and lessons. If you have your own racquet and bag, feel free to bring with you. And if you forget yours, I always have extra on site.

My son and I met Coach David and his family at a tennis tournament in Green Cove Springs, FL. We exchanged numbers and we became friends through tennis playing and fellowship. And eventually my son, Brennan, wanted to stop getting lessons from His Coach at Oakleaf and wanted to start learning from Coach David. Prior to knowing Coach David, my son had won zero championships or titles. And after entering a few throughout the summer and fall of 2025, in late October 2025 my son finally won 1st place—ironically, at Oakleaf—during a USTA weekend-long tournament that they were holding for junior players all over the south eastern region of the United States. Brennan actually only lost one game that entire weekend (6-0,6-0; 6-0,6-0; 6-0,6-1) and his UTR ranking has constantly increased ever since our very first month of taking lessons with Coach David.

We met Coach David in May of 2025 and my 11 year old son, Canon, has improved drastically and still keeps getting better each time we see Coach David (twice per week on average). .. Canon went from not really caring about tennis, to now it’s all he ever wants to do when he has free time. Coach David has taught him work ethic and why putting in the time equates to better performance. Coach David is also great at mentoring Canon with life and character trait skills..(as well as many other families we see on site Coach David really has a gift in mentoring the next generation)

I knew nothing about tennis until I saw Coach David teaching a clinic to beginners and he offered me to join in for free to see if I liked it. It was tough at first because I never have been interested in any sports, and I was 20 years old when I first met Coach David. But after about 7-8 lessons, I became good enough to start having fun and keeping balls in play. Especially fun when I was able to play doubles. And now I can play both singles and doubles with such confidence. I will continue to keep seeking Coach Davids guidance and lessons.

I have had both of my children taking tennis lessons with Coach David Cornish. They both have had major progress in their tennis career. One of my son ins is 8 years old and does very well at tournaments lately and my other son is a freshman in high school and is up for an award of the best all time record by any tennis athlete in the 70 years that the school has been in existence. Coach David also teaches me tennis while I am at the lessons with my sons.

I am a mother of 3 and work full time as a registered nurse. My husband loves to play mixed doubles and is a very great player so I decided to start taking lessons with Coach David. At first, it was tough to get my old/bad habits reversed. Mentally and physically. I had to learn why Coach David wanted me to try a different approach (whether it was my forehand, backhand, serve, or footwork; he wanted to change it all). So, after the 3rd lesson I really started seeing the progress. And then he spent some lessons strictly on my serve and toss and now I hit more accurately and consistently and without many faults. I am a busy wife, mom, and nurse; but I really wish I could see Coach David more frequently
