Lesson 1: Get to know the player’s ability, goals, and focus. Review some fundamental play styles and strategies (singles vs. doubles), best practices for strokes: serves, forehands, backhands, two-handed vs. one-handed shots, dinks, drops, drives, overheads, lobs, return of serves, and resets, focusing on footwork, grips, and ball manipulation.
Continued drilling, singles play, mini-games, and “trophy”-hunting: ATPs, Ernes, Burts, “shake-and-bake” formation, and lob coverage.
Lessons 4-10: We’ll continue to play skinny singles, games like 7-11, and other drills to reinforce a leveling up of skill. We’ll focus on correcting problem areas related to footwork, resets, ball placement, and technique.
Lessons 2-3: We’ll build on our initial lessons, refining strokes and start playing skinny singles, stopping to teach as needed. We’ll also be assigning homework and encouraging routine play at recreational courts.
