Please note that in-person lessons are available only for NYC residents. However, online lessons are available for anyone.*** —all ages, skill levels, and musical styles! I also encourage my in-person students to perform at events I host. Lessons can be: [1] remote via Zoom [2] at my music studio (2 Prince St, Brooklyn) [3] at your home. I have 20 years of experience teaching students of all levels, from beginners and group classes in school music programs to conducting jazz workshops at conservatories and teaching advanced adults regularly performing. No matter the students' level, my focus is not just on WHAT to play on the guitar; I emphasize a step-by-step process regarding HOW to practice the concept, deconstruct the core issue, improve the fundamental skills, and ultimately experience a lifetime of joy that music brings. Beginner students will immediately learn songs from their favorite artists while developing the correct fundamentals. Experienced students will be assisted in refining their existing techniques, understanding, and practices while still being challenged to develop new skills and update their goals. Topics include: -Technique/Chops/Picking/Lead guitar/'Shred'... -Chords/Songs/Riffs/Strumming/Rhythm... -Playing genres (jazz, rock, pop, classical, metal) stylistically/blending disciplines/improvisation... -Scales/Fretboard knowledge/Reading music... -Theory/Composition/Songwriting/History... -Development of practice routines/performing and recording... I am privileged to have studied and performed with some of the world's most elite musicians, with my study with late jazz guitar greats John Abercrombie and Vic Juris being experiences I am incredibly thankful for and models I emulate when helping others. Forging connections with students and assisting in their musical development is the most rewarding aspect of my work. I look forward to hearing from you!
"James is an incredibly talented guitarist and teacher. He took time to get to know me and my playing, and was great at figuring out a plan of action for what to work on and how to go about it. He is incredibly knowledgeable and has a great way of explaining things that make it easy for anyone to understand. I highly recommend learning from James !

I started teaching when I was 19 years old at the Park Conservatory in Rutherford, NJ in August 2017. In July 2018, I was the guitar teacher for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s "All-Female Jazz Residency." That October, I began working at the now-defunct Music Gallery in Little Ferry, NJ. Along with having a few private students, I currently work for Home Sweet Home Music Lessons and have been with them since June 2019. At Home Sweet Home, I have taught students of all ages ranging from 4 years old to people in their late 60s. During the Covid Lockdown in 2020, I began gaining experience with virtual lessons and have since taught in-person and remotely. In July of 2022, I started working for the remote teaching company, Virtu.Academy. I graduated from the William Paterson Jazz Program in 2020 where I studied and performed with top-tier musicians such as Bill Charlap, Steve LaSpina, Harold Mabern, and Joe Lovano. I play regularly in Manhattan at various restaurants and bars, including La Lanterna di Vittorio's Bar Next Door, the Antique Garage and the Standard Hotel. My latest residency was at the Stone House in Watchung, NJ. Having recently graduated from the Manhattan School of Music, I am currently living in New York City to further my career as a jazz artist.

"What I love most about Frank is his ability to break down complex techniques. He goes beyond teaching riffs and solos, focusing on the emotion and storytelling within these genres. It's an experience every guitarist should have. Frank’s passion for blues and rock is infectious, and his patient teaching style ensures you learn the main chops of these genres. Highly recommended!

Hi, I’m Nicholas. I play and teach fingerstyle guitar. Some say it’s the most challenging method of playing the instrument, but I say it’s the most worth learning. I can learn songs quickly, so if there’s a song you’d like to know, I could teach that, too. My goal is to teach aspiring guitar players the ability to sound how they’d want to sound on the instrument.
