Who I teach: Juniors (ages 8–17): Fundamentals, confidence, and good habits early. Patient, fun, and structured. Adults: Beginners learning the game, and intermediate players stuck at a number who want to break 100, 90, or 80.

My name is Helen Hearst. I am a reading specialist focusing on explicit phonics instruction and comprehension. I am most familiar with 1st- to 3rd-grade students. I also have a strong background in 1st- and 2nd-grade math. I will work with students on homework, oral reading, comprehension, and math foundational skills with games. There will be plenty of brain breaks and ways for students to take a break so that we are not working for 30 or 60 minutes straight.

Basketball is my language; I teach players to read the court and translate effort into measurable improvement. I bring many years of teaching experience, blending tactical insight, technical skill development, and a patient, upbeat approach to help athletes reach their potential. His personal journey of overcoming cerebral palsy as a youth has shaped his coaching philosophy and deepened his commitment to helping young people navigate life's challenges with resilience and determination. This understanding drives his holistic approach to youth development, weaving together athletic excellence with emotional wellness, academic achievement, and civic engagement. I’m Trevoin Shaw, a former forward at Paul Quinn College, where I played three seasons and earned two All-American selections, First Team All-Red River Conference, and Second Team All-Red River Conference honors. Since graduating, I’ve coached youth basketball with the Texas Legends (2023–2024) and the San Antonio Spurs (2025), leading camps, skill sessions, and clinics. I’ve also worked in game day operations, gaining valuable insight into the professional sports environment. I bring energy, discipline, and a player’s perspective to every coaching role, helping athletes grow on and off the court. I’m also actively pursuing a professional playing career, continuing to sharpen my skills and leadership for the next level.

Whether you’re picking up a paddle for the first time or you’re ready to become a more confident and strategic player, I’d love to help you take the next step. I’m a PPR Certified Pickleball Coach with experience teaching players of different ages and skill levels. I’ve also served as a Pickleball Director, where I developed and led clinics, leagues, ladders, tournaments, DUPR events, mixers, and other pickleball programming. My coaching philosophy is simple: understand the “why,” not just the “how.” We’ll work on technique, but I’ll also help you understand positioning, shot selection, court awareness, and strategy so your new skills actually translate into better play. New to pickleball? We’ll build a strong foundation without making the game complicated. Already playing? We’ll identify the areas holding you back and build a lesson around what will make the biggest difference in your game. Lessons can cover serving, returning, dinking, volleys, resets, third-shot drops, transition-zone play, doubles positioning, strategy, and match play. Most importantly, lessons should be productive and fun. My goal is for you to leave every session knowing something you didn’t know before—and excited to get back on the court.

For over three decades, I've immersed myself in the worlds of Badminton and Ping Pong, blending these passions into the dynamic sport of Pickleball.
