I've been immersed in tennis since childhood, but my passion truly ignited in 2016 when my older brother taught me the fundamentals and techniques. Throughout high school, I actively participated in summer tennis camps and proudly represented my school on the tennis team. By senior year, I achieved the highest score among the girls' team members and was honored to serve as team captain. Before college, I also enjoyed teaching private lessons in my hometown, sharing my love for the sport with others.

After 18 years of racquetball experience, I fell in love with pickleball the first time I played. This simple, fun, and social paddle game, which can also be highly competitive, captivated me immediately. Encouraged by an instructor, I became a certified pickleball coach through the Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) and USA Pickleball in March 2023. Since then, I have been regularly instructing beginner and improving players on a weekly basis while continuing to play 3-5 times a week at a ~3.5 level.

Wayne’s students include: Nationwide Tour standout Gary Christian, who earned his 2012 PGA Tour card Brian Gay Jason Dufner Jay Hobby Iain Steel Wayne has taught two Hall of Fame golfers, the Finalist in the USGA Pub Links, a male and female Finalist in the USGA Mid Am Championship, an NCAA 1st team all American, as well as champions on numerous smaller professional and amateur tours. He has taught four individuals who have shot 60 in competitive rounds of golf. Wayne is a two time PGA Teacher of the Year for the Dixie Section (1993 & 2002), and has been a member of the PGA since 1987. Wayne has been nominated numerous times for Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers and has been selected as one of Golf Magazine’s Top 400 Teachers in the United States for the year 2001. Wayne has coached over 200 collegiate players and has taken over 100 high school players and transitioned them into college golfers. He has also been published in Golf Digest Magazine and frequently appears on the Dewsweepers Golf Show. Wayne was selected for the 2016 FCG Top 50 Elite Junior Golf Coaches in USA Award! He was awarded again in 2018 as one of the FCG Master Coaches.

My college golfing journey began at AAMU, where I honed my skills and passion for the game. Now boasting a 3 handicap, my love for golf was first ignited at the tender age of ten, thanks to the guidance and shared moments with my father on the course.

Meet Chip, a Golf Coach in Birmingham, Alabama.

Originally from Shreveport, LA, Chip’s interest in golf began in the First Tee program. After playing golf for two years at Grambling State University, Chip took an interest in becoming a coach and transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma. At UCO, Chip received his B.S. in business management and completed the PGA PGM program. During his senior year, Chip sought out a job to be around great instruction and took an interest in working at Greystone. Prior to arriving at Greystone in 2015, Chip worked for three different First Tee chapters and participated in various junior golf instruction while in college. Upon arrival at Greystone CC, Chip became TPI LII golf, TPI LII junior and became a U.S. Kids certified coach. At Greystone, he has been a lead instructor for the Operation 36 curriculum and Greystone summer camps. Chip seeks to grow the game through innovative and activity based coaching for the juniors. He believes that by understanding the DNA of the player, coupled with a thorough assessment of all components of their golf game creates success in the development of all players.

Paul is a PGA Professional located in Birmingham, Alabama. He has been a member of the PGA since 2017 but has a long background in golf. After over 16 years in the business and working at both private and public facilities he decided to start a golf instruction business in the Birmingham and surrounding areas of Alabama. Prior to being a full-time instructor he was the Assistant Golf Professional at Greystone Golf and Country Club and Azalea City Golf Course in Mobile, Alabama where he worked under longtime Professionals Steve Smith, PGA and Lawrence Auer, PGA. Before Azalea City Golf Course, Paul was the Director of The First Tee Sessions in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he worked and taught throughout his college days. He became a Certified First Tee Instructor in 2009 and later received his PGA membership in 2017. He has had the pleasure to learn from great instructors like Michael Shivetts of Ol' Colony Golf Course and Michael Brisbane, PGA while at Azalea City. Meet Luke, a Golf Coach in Birmingham, Alabama.

Luke Pearce is a soon to be PGA Professional with years of experience in the golf industry. Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama has given him the ability to learn from some of the best teachers and minds in golf. Started learning from Robbie Blackwell and Niel Thompson, Then learned from Hank Johnson, Scott Hasse, and Lane Savoie before going to South Alabama for college. During college he learned under the dewsweeper academy as well as learned to be a club fitter. Now he is back in Birmingham and is learning under Paul Taylor at Oak Mountain State Park and has developed a teaching philosophy of there is no one way to swing a golf club. There are a million different ways to effectively hit the ball where you want it to go. He excels at taking your natural swing/ tendencies and builds on what you already do well to create a consistent and reliable swing you can be confident in.

Ryen Valentine joined the Pelham Racquet Club staff as Head Tennis Professional in 2020. His 15 years in the private club sector provided valuable experience coaching ladies teams, men, and juniors of all ages and abilities. Ryen has coached numerous state championship adult ladies teams, as well as junior team tennis teams that have won state & sectionals, making it to nationals. His 2021 Spain Park boys team won the Alabama 7A state championship. Ryen specializes is developing players with a strong foundation built on proper technique. Ryen and his wife, Lauren, are the proud parents of 3 beautiful girls.
