Maria M. Peñaloza is a seasoned violinist, mariachi performer, and music educator with over 25 years of experience in performance and instruction. She holds a Bachelor and Master of Music in Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSULB, and an Associate’s Degree in Child Development from LBCC. Maria has dedicated her career to enriching communities through music education, working with students across all age groups and abolities. Her teaching experience includes positions with the Long Beach Unified School District, New City Charter School, and Viva Homeschooling Learning Center. She also led music history assemblies for Los Angeles County schools and libraries for over 15 years. She currently coaches the Cabrillo High School Orchestra and Mariachi program. A passionate advocate for culturally relevant music education, Maria is known for her dynamic instruction and student-centered approach. In addition to teaching, she is an active performer and ensemble leader. Maria is currently a member of both the Millennial Orchestra and Mariachi Tapatio de Los Angeles, where she continues to perform and collaborate with fellow musicians across Southern California.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWeek 1: Meet the Violin • Rest position and playing position • Parts of the violin • Bow hold (pencil game) • Pizzicato open strings (E & A) • Movement/rhythm game • Play a simple duet with me
Lesson 4-10Week 4: My First Song! • Play a basic tune using open strings (e.g. “E – E – A – A – E”) • Practice alternating strings with bow • Posture/violin balance game • record a video for learning first “song” Week 5 and on Work on repertoire and first recital using Suzuki method or preferred pedagogy
Lesson 2-3Week 2: Magic Bows & Musical Stories • Review bow hold with “bunny ears” and bow exercises • Use bow on open E & A strings • Posture game (violin on shoulder, walking slowly) • Echo clapping rhythms • Storytime improvisation: “The Rainstorm” (create pizzicato and bowed sound effects) Week 3: Twinkle Rhythms & String Names • Review: string names and sounds (make up a song!) • Introduce basic Twinkle rhythms (pepperoni pizza, blueberry pie) • Bowing on all four open strings • Use flashcards to recognize string names • Violin Care Game (cleaning cloth, bow safety, etc.) • Play a simple duet with me

If you need to cancel your lesson, no worries! You can get a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours of making your booking. We want to make the process as hassle-free as possible for you.

And if you simply want to reschedule your lesson, change the date and time, or adjust the number of students joining, we've got you covered there too. You can easily make these changes within 24 hours of booking, and up to 72 hours before your lesson starts.
