Beginner training plan
Your first lessonYour first lesson with me will be all about getting comfortable with the violin and setting a strong foundation. Whether you’re brand new to the instrument or have some experience, I’ll guide you step by step so you feel confident and excited to play. We’ll start by getting to know your musical background and goals, and I’ll introduce you to the basics of the violin and bow. I’ll show you how to hold them properly, and we’ll go through some simple exercises to help you feel at ease. From there, you’ll learn how to produce a clear sound—starting with plucking the strings (pizzicato) and moving on to bowing open strings. We’ll also work on coordination, rhythm, and listening skills in a way that’s fun and approachable. By the end of the lesson, you’ll have a few simple exercises to practice at home so you can start building confidence right away. My goal is to make sure you leave feeling motivated, supported, and excited to continue your journey with the violin. If you have any questions before your first lesson, feel free to reach out—I’m here to help! Looking forward to making music with you!
Lesson 11+Now that you’ve built a solid foundation, we’ll start refining your technique, expanding your repertoire, and deepening your musical expression. At this stage, lessons will be more personalized based on your goals—whether you want to play your favorite songs, join an orchestra, or just continue improving for personal enjoyment. Here’s what we’ll focus on: • More advanced bowing techniques – Smoother string crossings, bow distribution, and articulation. • Improving intonation & shifting – Strengthening your left-hand accuracy and introducing position changes when you’re ready. • More expressive playing – Learning vibrato, dynamics, phrasing, and musical storytelling. • Repertoire growth – Playing more complex pieces that challenge and excite you. • Performance skills & confidence – Whether you’re playing for yourself, friends, or an audience, we’ll work on stage presence and playing with ease. Your progress will continue to build at your own pace, and I’ll guide you every step of the way to help you reach your personal violin goals. Most importantly, my goal is to keep lessons engaging and inspiring so that you not only improve but also enjoy the process of making music. Excited to keep making progress with you!
Lesson 4-10By this point, you’re starting to feel more comfortable with the violin, and now we’ll focus on refining your technique and expanding your skills. Lessons 4–10 are all about building consistency, confidence, and musicality. Here’s what we’ll work on: • Bow control & tone production – Making a clear, even sound and learning how to control dynamics. • Finger placement & intonation – Strengthening your left hand so you can play in tune with ease. • Scales & basic exercises – Developing finger independence and coordination. • Reading music & rhythm skills – If you’re new to reading music, we’ll continue breaking it down step by step. • Playing simple songs & pieces – Applying what you’ve learned to real music, so you start feeling like a true violinist! We’ll also start talking about musical expression—how to bring out emotion in your playing and make your music more engaging. As always, I’ll tailor these lessons to your pace, giving you personalized guidance and practice goals to help you progress smoothly. By Lesson 10, you’ll have a strong foundation and be well on your way to playing full pieces with confidence. More importantly, you’ll start feeling a real connection with the violin and enjoy making music! Keep going you got this!
Lesson 2-3Now that you’ve had your first lesson and are getting familiar with the violin, we’ll start building on what you’ve learned. In Lessons 2 and 3, we’ll focus on refining your posture, bow hold, and sound production to make sure you’re developing good habits from the start. You’ll begin working on smooth bowing, playing simple rhythms, and using your left-hand fingers to place notes on the fingerboard. We’ll introduce basic scales and short melodies to help you get comfortable with finger placement and coordination. If you’re brand new to reading music, I’ll guide you through that too, step by step. Most importantly, I’ll tailor these lessons to your progress—everyone learns at their own pace! I’ll make sure you have clear, achievable practice goals so you always know what to work on between lessons. By the end of Lesson 3, you’ll have a solid foundation and be well on your way to playing simple songs with confidence. My goal is to keep things fun, motivating, and rewarding while helping you build strong technique from the very beginning. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with children, I tailor my teaching approach to be both fun and developmentally appropriate. Here’s how I create an engaging, supportive environment for young violinists: • Interactive & Playful Approach: I incorporate games, stories, and creative exercises to introduce musical concepts in a way that sparks curiosity and keeps lessons lively. • Short, Focused Segments: Understanding that young learners have shorter attention spans, I break lessons into manageable segments. This helps maintain focus and ensures each concept is clearly understood before moving on. • Age-Appropriate Techniques: I use visual aids, hands-on activities, and playful methods to demonstrate posture, bowing, and finger placement, making technical skills accessible and enjoyable. • Positive Reinforcement: Celebrating even small achievements is key. I offer plenty of praise and encouragement to build confidence and foster a love for making music. • Collaborative Environment: I keep communication open with both the student and their parents, providing guidance on practice techniques and home support, ensuring that the learning continues beyond our lessons. My goal is to make every lesson a fun and memorable step in your child’s musical journey, nurturing both their skill development and a lifelong passion for the violin.

Working with teenagersWhen teaching teenagers, I adjust my approach to balance structure with the independence they naturally crave. Here’s how I tailor lessons for this age group: • Collaborative Goal-Setting: I work with each student to set personal goals, ensuring that their musical interests and ambitions are at the forefront of our lessons. This helps make each session relevant and motivating. • Engaging, Mature Content: I introduce a mix of classical pieces and modern repertoire that resonates with their experiences. By connecting music theory and technique to the styles they enjoy, lessons become both educational and inspiring. • Encouraging Critical Thinking: Teenagers often have keen insights about their playing. I invite open discussions about musical interpretation and technique, fostering an environment where they feel empowered to explore and express their ideas. • Building Independence: I gradually shift responsibility to the student by suggesting practice routines and offering targeted feedback. This helps them develop a disciplined, self-directed approach to their practice. • Constructive Feedback: I offer honest, supportive critiques that respect their growing maturity while clearly outlining areas for improvement. This balanced approach helps build both skill and confidence. By adapting lessons to meet the unique needs of teenagers, I ensure that they not only refine their technique but also deepen their personal connection to music.

I had the pleasure of having Christopher Wojahn as my Violin Teacher. He makes playing the violin fun and easy. He is a very gifted musician his very patient with people. I have had a few teachers before him. He is by far the best teacher I ever had. I give him an A+. He is so very talented and so diverse in many different styles. He is very opened to pretty much any type of music not only classical. He is very good at classical music. I have enjoyed being one of his students. I highly recommend him for any concerts.

Mr. Chris is a very passionate teacher. About music, about teaching and the violin! I love how he shared his love of music and the world of violin with me. I didn't know much of anything about classical music, but he opened up new worlds of music to me some of the most beautiful I've ever heard. Violin is hard, but he still made lessons fun and taught me how to play my first songs on the fiddle
