Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWith a beginner I will start by giving an overview of the rules and preceding of the event of interest. First lessons may vary depending on the intent of the athlete or parent. If the goal is to develop an interest in the jumping events we may begin by just doing the event. If the athlete already has an interest and would like to improve their abilities and learn we will begin with very basic running a jumping drills. These may involve things like skips, pop ups, leg cycles etc.
Lesson 11+The last stages of lessons will be focused on teaching proper full landing technique as well as doing short and full approach jumps that may be filmed to analyze for technique.
Lesson 4-10These lessons will move to the jumping runway. Drills will now be more focused on jumping into the pit (without a full landing yet). Athletes will learn where their arms and legs should be positioned when performing the long or triple jump.
Lesson 2-3In the next lessons we will revisit the drills from the first lesson and improve on them while possibly adding a few more. This will give the athlete things they can do on their own time to improve their jumping.
Youth players
Working with kidsLessons with younger kids will be focused on building a joy for track and field particularly the jumping events. Sessions will involve basic rules of the event and lots of repetitions performing the event.
Working with teenagersLessons will be adapted based on individuals skill level and experience with the event. If ready, we can work on more in depth technique and specific drills as well as planning to increase speed and strength for these events.
