Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWe’ll start by discussing your goals, athletic background, and any previous tennis experience. From there, I’ll introduce the fundamentals, including proper grips, ready position, footwork, and basic forehand and backhand technique. We’ll use fun, progressive drills like self-rallies, drop feeds, and controlled hitting to develop coordination and confidence. My goal is to help you feel comfortable on the court and leave your first lesson excited to keep learning!
Lesson 2-3We’ll build on the fundamentals by developing more consistent forehands and backhands, improving footwork, and introducing basic rallying skills. Through hand-fed and racket-fed drills, we’ll focus on proper contact points, swing mechanics, and ball control. We’ll also begin introducing volleys and serves, gradually progressing toward hitting back and forth over the net with greater confidence.
Lesson 4-10As your consistency improves, we’ll focus on developing all the major strokes, including groundstrokes, volleys, overheads, and serves. We’ll incorporate movement drills, directional control, and cooperative rallying to help you become more comfortable in live-ball situations. You’ll also learn basic court positioning, scoring, and singles and doubles strategy. Each lesson will be tailored to your progress, with the goal of building the skills and confidence needed to play recreational matches.
Lesson 11+At this stage, we’ll continue refining your technique while incorporating more advanced drills, point play, and match situations. We’ll focus on improving consistency, shot placement, movement, and tactical decision-making. Lessons may include crosscourt rally challenges, serve-and-return practice, and situational point play. As you progress, we’ll identify your strengths and areas for improvement to create a personalized plan that helps you reach your individual tennis goals.
