Laurentsi was born in Minsk, Belarus, and began playing tennis at the age of six. By age 12, he was competing in national and international tournaments, eventually becoming a Top 10 junior player in Belarus in both the 16U and 18U divisions. His success earned him full sponsorship through Belarus’ national tennis development program, where he had the opportunity to train alongside elite players and coaches, including Ilya Ivashka (ATP Top 50), Egor Gerasimov (ATP Top 100), Anton Dubrov (Aryna Sabalenka’s coach), and Egor Yatsyk (coach of Aslan Karatsev). At 17, Laurentsi competed in Belarus’ national selection tournament for the Davis Cup team, finishing sixth and earning a position as an additional player on the team. In 2011, Laurentsi received a full tennis scholarship to Bethany College in Kansas, where he competed in the NAIA. During both his freshman and sophomore seasons, he won his regional tournament and advanced to the semifinals of the national tournament, where he fell to the eventual champion.
