Sam
Having never picked up a racket before six weeks of rec center classes, I started working with Justin. I had so many questions and was really lacking in skills. With Justin’s help, I’ve learned how to hit a topspin forehand. He helped me to see that I was better suited to a one-handed backhand, and I’ve been able to develop that much better than the two-handed shot I was doing. He’s very knowledgeable about tennis and knows what I need to learn besides just the basic groundstrokes. I couldn’t ask for a better coach.

I’ve been taking lessons from Justin for about eight months. Even though I played many, many years ago, I was basically an older beginner when I started playing again. Justin always asks what I want to work on and adds to that the skills he knows I will need. He’s patient and encouraging, which has helped my confidence level. Justin is also very flexible about accommodating my schedule. I always look forward to my lessons and have nothing but positive things to say about him

Justin does a great job coaching my daughter, who plays for the WNHS tennis team. He’s knowledgeable, passionate about teaching tennis, and she enjoys learning from him. We appreciate that he’s flexible with our schedule and comes to our Westerville location. I highly recommend him!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI teach how to grip the racquet. I teach them how to swing the racquet. Then I teach them how to move in tennis.
Lesson 11+We start to focus on the students individual strengths and how they should approach playing matches.
Lesson 4-10Depending on the students progress lessons, the goal is to have learned all aspects of the game. Serve, return, ground strokes, volleys, overheads, approach shots.
Lesson 2-3We incoorporate everything that was learned in to drills the and we check if the students doing remembering how to correctly hold the racquet and swing it. Also we start learning proper footwork patterns on forehand and backhand.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonTechnical corrections
Lesson 11+It depends on the needs the student and their goals.
Lesson 4-10It depends on the needs of the student at this point and their goals
Lesson 2-3Footwork trained through drills practicing open stances shots, closed stance shots, and semi open stance shots. Serve plus one practice. Return plus one practice.

Youth players
Working with kidsI try to teach the core fundamentals and make sure the child builds a foundation for their game. For example, for all shots the child should on the racquet correctly.

Working with teenagersTeenagers can follow the beginner or advanced plan. The good thing about teenagers is that they typically adapt faster than adults to new movements. The fundamentals are the most important but understanding at this stage how to self correct when they are not with the coach is important for their development.
