My lesson with Jung was quite helpful, especially in refining my volleys and court positioning. Though I still need to improve my footwork consistency, the way Jung explained key concepts made a difference. Still, I’m hopeful that next time we can focus more on those quick directional changes. If you're looking for someone who’s attentive and clearly understands tennis techniques, Jung might be worth trying.

The lesson with Jung was quite good. He provided helpful feedback and was excellent at working with our kid. With more practice, we'll see steady improvement. Still, it’s encouraging to have someone who clearly cares about teaching well. If you're thinking about trying a lesson, Jung might be worth considering. He was very patient and encouraging.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonMy goal in the first lesson is to make the student feel comfortable and build a strong foundation. I start with a warm-up and hand-eye coordination drills like catching and tossing the ball with the racquet. I then introduce basic grip (Eastern forehand), ready position, and simple footwork. We’ll finish with forehand shadow swings and a few gentle rally attempts to gauge timing. The focus is on fun and confidence.
Lesson 11+At this stage, we transition from ā€œbeginnerā€ to ā€œearly intermediate.ā€ The focus shifts toward point construction, consistency under pressure, and improving footwork and recovery. We begin rally-based drills such as crosscourt rally targets, deep vs. short ball recognition, and live ball drills with movement. Serves and returns are practiced regularly with emphasis on placement, not power. I also introduce simple tactical concepts—when to attack, when to reset, how to defend. For younger players, we’ll add more game-based learning. For adults, we may incorporate point-play scenarios and light match simulations. The goal is to build match confidence while refining mechanics, improving endurance, and solidifying mental toughness.
Lesson 4-10We expand to full-court rallies with both forehand and backhand. I introduce serve technique using progressions—starting with tossing mechanics, then shadowing, then half-serve drills. I also cover the volley technique at the net, including split-step and ready position. Games like ā€œKing of the Courtā€ or ā€œTarget Zoneā€ keep lessons fun and competitive. By lesson 10, the student should be able to rally consistently, serve with a basic motion, and understand point play structure.
Lesson 2-3Now that the student has been introduced to the basics, we work on forehand consistency and introduce the backhand (starting with two hands unless one-handed feels more natural). I reinforce the split step, contact point, and swing path. Drills include ā€œdrop-hit forehands,ā€ ā€œhit and freezeā€ (hold the finish), and ā€œmini-court ralliesā€ to build control. I also introduce simple movement patterns: forward and lateral steps.

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen I teach kids, my top priorities are fun, safety, and building confidence. I keep lessons engaging with age-appropriate games, movement-based drills, and positive reinforcement. I focus on developing basic coordination, stroke fundamentals, and early court awareness in a playful environment. I also emphasize listening, sportsmanship, and celebrating small wins to keep them excited about learning tennis.

Working with teenagersWith teenagers, I combine technical instruction with structured progressions, while also fostering motivation and accountability. I tailor drills to challenge them both physically and mentally, introduce point-play strategies, and help them set realistic goals—whether for fitness, school teams, or competition. I also create space for questions and feedback to build trust and keep them invested in their growth.
