About your tennis coach

I was a four-year varsity player at Oberlin College and currently work in economic consulting. I am also currently building a post-match feedback platform for competitive players (we are currently demoing the product for a select group of players). Outside of tennis, I completed a 2,800 mile walk across America a few years ago and am currently training for an Ironman. I value discipline, consistency, and long-term development, and I enjoy working with players who want to improve and are willing to put in the work.

James has a really analytical approach, focusing on the why instead of just saying “do this”. Drills were well thought out and built towards playing points. My consistency has improved a lot since starting lessons.

James is great at breaking down the game in a simple and practical way. I already played recreationally, but he helped me clean up my technique and think more strategically during points. The drills were focused and we also played a lot of points. I’ve already noticed a big improvement, specifically with my one-handed backhand and forehand down the line.

My 12-year old son has been taking lessons with James and it’s been a really positive experience. James is very encouraging but also keeps him focused and working hard. My son looks forward to the lessons each work and has been doing better in his tournaments recently.

I had never picked up a tennis racket before the first lesson, but James made everything really approachable, focusing on fundamentals without making it overwhelming. After just a few lessons I could actually rally a bit and understood the basic stroke mechanics.

Great experience so far. James keeps the lessons relaxed but still structured. He showed me the right grip, basic footwork, and how to actually make clean contact with the ball. Surprised at how much progress I’ve made already, and definitely plan to keep going.
