Beginner training plan
Your first lessonStart with grip, racket feel, and mini-tennis at the service line. Focus solely on the forehand with 1–2 simple cues. Feed consistent, hittable balls to build confidence. Goal is enjoyment; they should leave wanting to come back.
Lesson 2-3Reinforce the forehand and introduce the backhand. Begin transitioning from the service line toward the baseline. Add basic footwork; split step and recovery. Keep rallying as the core activity with short cooperative challenges.
Lesson 4-10Introduce the serve (start with the trophy position and work backward). Add volley basics and court positioning. Begin teaching simple patterns; cross-court consistency. Introduce scoring and play points so they experience real match situations.
Lesson 11+Shift toward game-based learning. Drill specific patterns, work on serve and return, and play competitive sets. Identify strengths to build a game style around. Introduce mental/tactical concepts; shot selection, playing percentages, and managing pressure points.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
