Beginner training plan
Your first lesson- Get to know each other
- Using short court reveals a lot about a players game
- Gradually make our way around all the strokes to figure out what is there and what needs work
- All of this while I am also hitting with the student
Lesson 11+- continuation of before with emphasis on points
Possibly play some practice games/sets if player desires
Lesson 4-10- Spend more time working on working on singular strokes during lessons to build muscle memory
- Start addressing more point construction
Lesson 2-3Try out different drills to figure what works with a player
- Address problems that occurred in first lesson
- Do a deep dive into the mechanics of strokes that need work
- Finish with a few points
Youth players
Working with teenagersI have taught teenagers in the past. I’m usually very patient, but I don’t coddle students. I will tell them if something needs improvement, but only if it makes sense to be pointed out at that time. Working with all age groups but especially younger students is a building process, so making large strides in the span of a one hour lesson is unlikely. Any student that wants to be there, I can work and build with.
