I begin by assessing their athletic background, comfort level with the racquet, and overall coordination. I introduce the basic fundamentals—proper grip, ready position, and simple rallying movements—while keeping the lesson fun and confidence-building. My goal in the first session is to create a positive, encouraging environment where the player feels successful and excited to continue learning.
Beyond lesson eleven, beginners continue developing consistency, power, and tactical awareness. We work on situational patterns, serve placement, return of serve, and building confidence in live points and match play. The goal is to help them transition from basic skills to becoming a capable, independent player with a solid technical foundation and a clear understanding of how to play and enjoy the game.
During lessons four through ten, the player progresses into a more complete understanding of the game. We refine groundstroke technique, add the serve and volley basics, and begin incorporating movement, directional hitting, and point-based drills. At this stage, players start rallying longer, controlling the ball more intentionally, and understanding the fundamentals of scoring and strategy.
In lessons two and three, we build on the foundations by developing consistent contact and learning the basic mechanics of the forehand and backhand. I introduce simple footwork patterns, hand-eye coordination drills, and controlled rallies. Beginners can expect noticeable improvement in timing, balance, and overall comfort on the court.
In the first lesson, I conduct a detailed on-court evaluation of their technical mechanics, footwork patterns, serve structure, and tactical decision-making. I also analyze their strengths, weaknesses, and preferred playing style. This session allows me to understand their goals—whether it's tournament preparation, improving weapons, or refining consistency—so I can design a personalized, high-performance training plan.
