Emmanuel's lesson was quite adept, especially with his skillful coaching that clearly stood out. Though I still see potential in improving my serve technique, I appreciated his ability to assess and adapt. It’s a pretty good step forward in my tennis game, definitely worth trying out if you're interested in sharpening your skills with a knowledgeable coach.

How it works

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonObjective: Introduce tennis basics and build comfort with racquet and ball. • Warm-up: Simple movement (jogging, side steps, reaction games). • Racquet familiarization: Holding the racquet, tapping ball/balloon, rolling ball. • Forehand & backhand basics (drop feeds, bounce-hit drills). • Serve introduction: Throwing motion → underarm serve (children) / toss drills (teens/adults). • Game: Mini rally or hitting targets with tennis balls. ✅ Focus: Fun, coordination, and first successful hits.
Lesson 11+Objective: Transition from beginner to match-ready player. • Groundstrokes: Consistency with 10–15 ball rallies. • Serve: Develop flat and spin serves; serve + 1 rally pattern. • Net play: Approach + volley combinations, overheads. • Tactics: Constructing points, attacking vs defending, consistency vs aggression. • Physical: Footwork speed, agility, endurance drills integrated with play. • Play: Full matches with standard scoring; pressure drills (e.g., tiebreaks). ✅ Focus: Match play, tactical awareness, and readiness for competition.
Lesson 4-10Objective: Build consistency, introduce variety, and develop basic tactics. • Groundstrokes: Directional hitting (cross-court, down-the-line). • Net play: Forehand/backhand volleys, introduction to overhead smash. • Serve: Full serving motion, aiming for correct service box. • Return of serve: Block and controlled return. • Tactics: Court positioning, playing to open space. • Play: Short set formats (e.g., 4 games, no-ad scoring). ✅ Focus: Rally control, serve consistency, and understanding point play.
Lesson 2-3Objective: Reinforce fundamentals and introduce simple rally play. • Groundstrokes: Forehand and backhand rally drills (short court → full court). • Movement: Ready position, split step, recovery to center. • Serve: Continue toss practice, half-serve motion. • Volleys: Gentle volley drills close to net. • Play: Short rally games (first to 5 shots in play). ✅ Focus: Players begin to rally, serve, and return consistently.

About your tennis coach

With over 15 years of dedicated experience in tennis, I bring a unique blend of competitive playing background and professional coaching expertise to the court. My journey includes competing as a college-level professional player, where I developed a deep understanding of high-performance tennis, as well as earning my certification as an ITF Level 1 Certified Coach. I have had the privilege of coaching in multiple locations, including McKinney, Texas; Argyle, Texas; New York City; and Lagos, Nigeria, working with players from diverse backgrounds and skill levels. This international and multi-state experience has shaped my ability to adapt coaching methods to meet the needs of each individual player. I am passionate about fostering growth in every player I work with—whether they are complete beginners discovering the sport for the first time, or aspiring competitors looking to elevate their game. My coaching philosophy focuses on developing strong technical fundamentals, building tactical awareness, and enhancing physical and mental resilience. I believe that tennis is not only about mastering strokes, but also about building character, discipline, and confidence. My sessions are designed to be fun, engaging, and challenging, with a clear pathway for players to achieve their individual goals. Having been immersed in the sport for most of my life, I understand both the player’s perspective and the coach’s responsibility. I strive to create a positive learning environment where athletes feel supported, motivated, and inspired to reach their full potential.
