Beginner training plan

Your first lessonBuild rapport with student. See where they are in level. Have fun. Not about technique but building confidence and having fun. All short court near net.

Lesson 2-3Warm up. Start with forehand and backhand strokes mid court. Learn to hit…progress to rally. Have fun. Talk about serve.

Lesson 4-10Start rallying mid court and possibly from baseline. Serving consistently. Learn to keep score, play points, footwork, net play volleys,

Lesson 11+Rally, serve and play real points - have fun. Play all aspects of the game. Heavy footwork, consistent and playing tennis.

Youth players

Working with kidsKids focus is on fun, games and movement. Focusing on enjoying the sport. Drills that focus on getting success in little things.

Working with teenagersMore technical focus on FH, BH, serve and volley. Heavy drills with movement, direct feedback and open to asking them how they feel. More competition. Challenge them.

I began coaching tennis through the National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) in Washington, D.C., working with underprivileged youth ages 7–16. I taught beginners and intermediate players, focusing on fundamentals, footwork, and consistency, while supporting some competitive juniors. My style is structured, disciplined, and encouraging—meeting players at their level, building confidence, and helping them develop skills while enjoying the game.
