Jewel Ausberry, affectionately known as MerJewel, is the heart and soul of MerJewel Swim Academy. With over 35 years of teaching experience, Jewel brings a unique blend of expertise, patience, and a natural ability to connect with students of all ages. Her lifelong passion for swimming began early as a high school swim team member for four years, and she later achieved lifeguard certification in her senior year. Jewel’s experience as an educator enhances her swim instruction, making her lessons engaging, effective, and tailored to each student’s needs. Known for her great sense of humor, Jewel creates a fun and relaxed atmosphere where swimmers feel confident and excited to learn. Whether working with babies, children, or adults, Jewel’s approach combines water safety, technical skill development, and lots of laughter to make every lesson a memorable experience.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFocus is on safety and comfort in the water.
Lesson 11+Timed treading, review of lessons learned, and finessing swimming strokes to mastery level.
Lesson 4-10Lessons include competency in freestyle (Australian crawl), backstroke, breast stroke, inverted breastroke, side stroke, and butterfly.
Lesson 2-3Taught competency in blowing bubbles, holding breath, floating on front and back, flipping from front to back, doggie paddle, back paddle, and achieving life-saving guarantee of jumping in pool, surfacing, and exiting pool as in the case of accidental fall.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonI establish safety and comfort in the water.
Lesson 11+Review of self save and swimming strokes as well as finessing strokes to mastery level.
Lesson 4-10Competency in free style (Australian crawl), back stroke, breast stroke, inverted breast stroke, side stroke, and treading.
Lesson 2-3Learning safety measures to include how to properly blow bubbles, hold breath, motionless float on front and back, doggie paddle, back paddle, back stroke, flip from front to back, life saving guarantee of how to swim to side and exit pool in the eventuality of falling in the pool.
Youth players
Working with kidsMy lessons are similar to adult lessons, but with greater focus on self save and the addition of learning play with rewards.
Working with teenagersMy lessons for teenagers are the same as adults as they have the same and most often greater capability. If they are game, I will teach them the art of competitive swim with the addition of the butterfly stroke.

If you need to cancel your lesson, no worries! You can get a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours of making your booking. We want to make the process as hassle-free as possible for you.

And if you simply want to reschedule your lesson, change the date and time, or adjust the number of students joining, we've got you covered there too. You can easily make these changes within 24 hours of booking, and up to 72 hours before your lesson starts.
