For a beginners first surf lesson I like to keep things, fun, relax and safe. We start with a quick intro and gear set up then go over the basics of ocean safety so they feel confident in the water. On the sand we practice paddling and getting into the right position and the pop-up until it feels natural. Then it’s into the shallow white water where I stay close to guide them and cheer them on. I keep tips simple, celebrate every little win, and wrap up on a high note so they leave stoked and ready for their next session.
By your second session you’ll already feel more comfortable in the water. We’ll work on paddling with better rhythm, popping up more smoothly, and riding waves longer. You’ll start making small adjustments to your stance and balance so you can control the board better!
By the third session you’ll be ready to start catching waves with less help for me. We’ll fine-tune your timing, learn how to angle the board to go left or right, and practice reading the waves so you know which wants to go for. Each session builds on the last so you notice you’re falling Less standing up faster and having more fun every time
By your fourth and fifth sessions, you’ll be more independent in the water - paddling out on your own, catching waves without much help, and starting to choose the right waves for your skill level. We’ll work on turning the board, improving your stance and keeping speed on the wave.
By 6 to 8 sessions you’ll feel comfortable in slightly bigger or cleaner waves. You’ll practice linking turns, trimming along the face of the wave, and navigating through small crowds. You’ll start learning ocean awareness, understanding current, sets, and How to position yourself for the best waves.
By your 9th and 10th sessions, you’ll be surfing with flow and confidence. You’ll be able to spot waves before they break paddle into them at the right angle ride down the line and make smooth turns. At this stage you’re not just standing up -you’re surfing !
