🏅Amateur Surfer
Beginner training plan
Your first lessonIn our first lessons we will cover fundamental paddling mechanics, your surfing stance, how to read waves, understanding surfing etiquette and basic ocean safety principles. Beginning students can expect to catch small waves from a prone to standing position by being “pushed” into them by their instructor instead of paddling into them on their own.
Lesson 11+Once comfortable catching waves and paddling back out with awareness of the line up, we will begin learning more advanced maneuvers such as surfing “down the line” and doing turns. If interested, students can begin to surf on smaller more agile boards oriented towards performance surfing.
Lesson 4-10Surfing etiquette and understanding the rules of the line up will become more central as we progress. Students will begin catching waves on their own and can expect to paddle back out to the line up with proper awareness and duck diving skills. Once the student becomes comfortable catching smaller broken waves we will sit deeper and begin surfing unbroken waves with more size. More size = longer rides!
Lesson 2-3We will continue to expand on the fundamentals established in our first lesson and will begin to learn how to paddle out with basic duck diving technique. Students will learn how to position themselves to catch small waves and will begin to paddle into them themselves.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonWe will surf together on our first lesson and do a fun assessment of the students’ skills. Based on their abilities and questions regarding how to improve, we will focus on achieving those goals by building a practice program that focuses first on the fundamental skills necessary to accomplish more advanced techniques.
