Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWe’ll Begin with a warm welcome to the ocean and an introduction to the basics of surfing. We will then focus on safety by explaining beach etiquette, identifying rip currents, and understanding surf conditions. You’ll learn the proper way to carry the board and how to lie on it, as well as learning the proper paddling technique. We will practice your pop-up on land, ensuring you feel comfortable before hitting the water. We will have the second half of the lesson in the water, allowing you to practice paddling and catching small, gentle waves with guidance
Lesson 11+Any lessons after 11 will be critiquing minor errors while you begin to choose your own waves, and considering the possibility of riding a smaller board if you’re trying to downsize.
Lesson 4-10 In these lessons, the importance of paddling and positioning for wave selection in lesson four while reinforcing previous techniques . Focusing on consistency in popping up and riding waves. Lessons five and six we will dive deeper into foot placement and weight shifts for better turns. Introduce basic paddling drills to improve endurance. In lesson seven, we will add in techniques for riding unbroken waves and understanding wave dynamics.
Lesson 2-3The second lesson will be reviewing the pop-up technique and focusing on balance. The majority of the lesson will be us practicing your pop up technique in the water. I’ll then Introduce turning techniques, both on the board and in the water, emphasizing the importance of weight distribution. In the third lesson, we’ll be reinforcing the pop-up and turning skills while adding in a discussion about reading the waves and positioning on the board

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with kids in surf lessons, I focus on keeping instructions simple and breaking down skills into easy-to-understand steps. I make the lessons fun by incorporating games and playful activities to keep them engaged while practicing their balance and paddling. Safety is a top priority, so I emphasize basic rules like staying close and being aware of the ocean. We start in shallow, gentle whitewash to build confidence before tackling bigger waves. Most importantly, I provide plenty of encouragement to create a positive and supportive learning environment.

Working with teenagersWhen teaching teenagers to surf, I provide clear instructions while encouraging them to take ownership of their progress in the water. I tailor the lessons to challenge their abilities, introducing more advanced techniques and wave reading skills. Safety is still a top priority, with a focus on ocean awareness, etiquette, and how to handle stronger waves. We start by refining basic maneuvers and gradually progress to more difficult waves as their confidence grows. I aim to create an environment where they feel motivated to push their limits and build a deeper connection with the sport

What you need to bringYou can bring sunscreen, a towel, a bathing suit for under your wetsuit, water for after the lesson, and a positive attitude! :)

What I can bringFor my surf lessons, I provide 8-foot foamie surfboards, perfect for beginners due to their stability and ease of use. I also offer wetsuits in a range of sizes to ensure everyone stays warm and comfortable in the water. Safety is a priority, so I always carry a fully stocked first aid kit for any minor injuries or emergencies!
