Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFocus on introducing the fundamental skills in a fun, encouraging, and structured way. Introduce basic softball skills β€”throwing, catching, fielding, hitting β€” and spark enthusiasm for the game. Teach proper grip and basic throwing mechanics, Teach athletic stance and how to field a grounder, Introduce proper stance and swing mechanics, mini game, then review.
Lesson 11+reinforcing fundamentals, introducing more advanced concepts, and preparing them for real gameplay. Focus Areas: Skill Refinement Game Situations Position-Specific Training Team Play & Communication Confidence & Game IQ Introduce simple cutoff and backup responsibilities, Advanced Fielding – Backhands, Forehands, Charging, Live Hitting + Base Running Decisions, Defensive Situations – Force Outs, Tag Outs, Hitting Strategy – Count Awareness, Bat Control.
Lesson 4-10Here I will build players’ confidence and skills in throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, and introduce base running β€” while still keeping everything fun and age-appropriate. Again, will not move on until I feel they have a concept of form of consistency expectation. Focus more on accuracy, Improve throwing mechanics and introduce receiving footwork, Fielding and throwing in one motion, Improve swing mechanics and hand-eye coordination, Catching balls in the air and glove positioning.
Lesson 2-3Repeat first lesson. Will not introduce anything new if not seeing progress. Until I see right movements and mechanics will I introduce something else. I will do new drills that focus on the same concept.

How it works
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonFor advanced softball players, the first lesson should evaluate current skills, set expectations for the season, and reestablish competitive intensity. Focus on refinement, speed, and decision-making β€” not basic mechanics. Dynamic Warm-Up & Arm Activation, 2. Evaluation Stations (Infield- Ground balls, quick transitions, footwork to throw. Outfield- Drop steps, angles, crow-hop & throw to bases. Hitting- Tee, front toss, exit speed or zone control. Base Running- Timed home-to-1B, lead-offs, rounding). Situational Reads Goal: Reinforce smart decision-making and communication. Advanced Hitting Circuit, Controlled Scrimmage or Live Situational Reps, cool down and review.
Lesson 11+At this time the athlete should be well-conditioned, technically sound, and comfortable with game-speed execution. From lesson 11 and beyond, practices will evolve into a blend of: Position-specific refinement High-pressure game simulation Mental and strategic development Ongoing evaluation and fine-tuning These lessons are about preparing for elite competition β€” high school playoffs, travel tournaments, or college showcases.
Lesson 4-10Take the foundation from earlier practices and focus on precision, pressure, and preparation for real-game competition. These players already know how to execute skills β€” now, they are sharpening them for speed, decision-making, and performance under pressure. Game-Speed Infield & Quick Transitions, Offensive Situations + Base Running IQ, Outfield Communication + Relays, Game Pressure Hitting + Count Control, Pitcher & Catcher Specialty Work + Defense Integration, Team Defense + Scrimmage Scenarios.
Lesson 2-3Build on the evaluation and intensity of the first session. These lessons will begin to refine game situations, position-specific drills, and competitive execution, while still conditioning players physically and mentally for season-long performance. Example: Positional skill development + defensive communication, Cutoffs & Communication, Situational Infield Defense, etc.

We can’t say enough good things about Coach Dan and the impact he has had on our daughter both on and off the softball field. From the very beginning, Coach Dan created an environment where players felt challenged, supported, and respected. He pushed our daughter to improve her game β€” refining her swing, strengthening her mental toughness, and deepening her understanding of the sport. She didn’t just become a better athlete under his guidance β€” she became a more confident, disciplined, and focused young woman.
Emma
Coach Dan has been an incredible influence on my daughter. She lost faith in her position as a catcher but his patience, encouragement, and deep knowledge of the game have boosted her confidence and love for the game. He sharpened her skills behind the plate but also off the field as giver her tools to exceed. She's grown so much under his guidance, and we’re truly grateful for his support and dedication!
Sophia
We couldn’t have asked for a better coach. Coach Dan has been amazing in helping our daughter improve her throwing. She’s been to many coaches and picked up weird habits along the way. His clear instruction and patience to start from scratch has helped her move forward. His supportive coaching style and drills have made a big difference in her accuracy and confidence. We're so thankful for the progress she's made thanks to his guidance!
