Start by getting to know the player, their experience level, goals, and what they want to improve. I would begin with a basic assessment of their throwing, fielding, hitting, and overall fundamentals. From there, I would focus on proper technique, body positioning, and building confidence rather than overwhelming them with too much at once. I want the first lesson to be comfortable, positive, and focused on establishing a strong foundation.
The second and third lessons would focus on reinforcing the fundamentals introduced during the first lesson while slowly adding more drills and movement. For hitting, I would work on stance, grip, load, timing, and making consistent contact through tee work and front toss. For fielding, I would focus on proper glove position, footwork, throwing mechanics, and staying low to the ball. I would also introduce drills that help the player build consistency and confidence
At this stage, I would begin progressing from basic fundamentals into more game-like situations. Hitting sessions would include tee work, front toss, live pitching, situational hitting, and working on different pitch locations. Fielding would progress into ground balls, fly balls, throwing on the move, and reaction drills. I would also work on base running, communication, decision-making, and understanding the game. The goal is to challenge the player while continuing to correct technique and build confidence.
For the remaining lessons, I would tailor training to the player's individual needs and position. We would continue strengthening areas that need improvement while developing advanced skills and game awareness. Drills would become more competitive and game-like, with a focus on consistency, confidence, decision-making, and applying skills under pressure. I would also continue setting new goals with the player so they can see their progress and continue improving beyond our lessons.
