Professional singer and vocal coach Suzanna Griffith teaches all styles, including jazz, musical theater, and pop, to students of all ages and levels. She has performed internationally, including in Paris, and will headline a big band in Chicago this July. Her students have signed with record labels and work professionally in Los Angeles. Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI start with a friendly vocal assessment: goals, style, range, breathing, posture, pitch, and confidence. We do simple warmups like lip trills, sirens, hums, and easy 5-note scales, then sing part of a song so I can hear the student’s natural voice and give encouraging first steps.
Lesson 2-3Students begin building healthy habits: breath support, posture, pitch accuracy, tone, and releasing tension. We use beginner drills like lip trills, straw phonation, humming, “ng” sirens, and simple vowel exercises, then apply them to a song they enjoy.
Lesson 4-10We strengthen technique and confidence. Students work on range, smoother transitions through the break/passaggio, clearer vowels, rhythm, dynamics, and expression. Each lesson includes warmups, targeted exercises, ear training, and song coaching so progress feels practical and fun.
Lesson 11+Students continue developing their own sound and performance skills. We focus on expanding repertoire, polishing songs, improving stamina, stage presence, interpretation, and audition/performance preparation. Lessons become more personalized to the student’s goals, style, and vocal growth.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonI begin with a detailed assessment of the singer’s current technique, vocal habits, goals, repertoire, range, registration balance, breath coordination, resonance, agility, and performance style. We identify strengths and technical challenges, then create a customized plan focused on healthy, sustainable vocal growth and artistic development.
Lesson 2-3Advanced singers begin targeted technical work based on their goals and vocal needs. Exercises may include mix and belt coordination, passaggio work, resonance balancing, agility drills, onset control, dynamic control, riff work, vowel modification, and stamina building. Technique is immediately applied to repertoire for practical integration.
Lesson 4-10Students refine consistency, artistry, and vocal freedom across styles and ranges. Lessons focus on advanced breath management, stylistic interpretation, phrasing, emotional connection, vocal endurance, microphone technique, audition/performance preparation, and expanding vocal color and flexibility. Repertoire coaching becomes increasingly detailed and performance-driven.
Lesson 11+Lessons become highly personalized and goal-oriented for performers, recording artists, professionals, and serious students. Focus areas may include live performance coaching, studio preparation, advanced stylistic work, repertoire building, audition prep, vocal health maintenance, and developing a unique artistic identity while maintaining strong technical foundations.
