As a classically trained singer/songwriter, musical theater performer, and recording artist of 20 years, singing is my deepest passion and most authentic expression of self! For the past 16 years, I have found so much joy in sharing this vocal exploration and expression with students around the world! I absolutely adore working with vocal students (ages 12-96) helping them to find, cultivate and nurture their authentic voice! With my teaching I prioritize the health and longevity of the voice, building solid breath support, and using proper body mechanics to help support the instrument. I enjoy working with all voice types, genders, and levels from Broadway performers and recording artists to folks in their church choir, and pre-teens looking to develop their singing voice. In our sessions, we will engage in physical stretches/body openers, breathwork exercises, vocal agility games, and singing your favorite songs and styles of music. As a vocal coach, I strive to forge honest connections with my students. I consider it an important part of my role to help my students build confidence and self-esteem in their singing and in themselves! I am SO looking forward to working with YOU!

I have received vocal coaching from Shaina Wexler for three years. I am a transgender guy and during my transition her holistic vocal coaching has been one of my favorite tools in my toolbox. I was going to her for vocal coaching, but her skills in healing breathwork and body opening movements have all worked together in this beautiful way that has allowed me to unlock the self confidence, personal empowerment, and self knowledge I have needed in order for me to access my real voice. I found her near the beginning of my of my voice-drop process and she has been a rock through that process.
There have been many times where I have felt like I couldnβt access my voice, and she intuitively figured out that the blockage was psychological rather than physical, then she lead me through an unblocking process and by the end of the session I am able to sing confidently again. Her intuition and empathy is extremely impressive. Before transitioning, I loved my singing voice and I had intense fears around losing that voice, but at this point I love my voice more than I ever thought was possible. Itβs beautiful and itβs perfect for me. She got me there.
When you enter into a session with Shaina, you get the immediate sense that she genuinely wants to help. Her calming and understanding presence alone is healing and centering, and she creates a space that is safe and clear of judgement. I can't recommend her more highly!

Shaina helped me train and prepare for some really huge Broadway auditions and call backs. I was having a lot of difficulty accessing power in my vocals (especially while dancing), but Shaina taught me some very powerful body mechanic techniques to help me support my breath!! She also helped me really understand, for the first time, how to resonate in my mask! After working with Shaina, I felt so confident and prepared for my auditions, and I booked the gig!!

Shaina is such a fun coach! I learn so much from her and I love that we spend so much time laughing together. Shaina has always made me feel so comfortable in my lessons, even when I was feeling nervous about my first lesson. She has helped me to feel so much more confident when I sing in front of other people and go to auditions. Also, I can tell that she really cares how I am feeling during each lesson and that means so much to me.

I'm a 96 year old man, but I'm here to say that you absolutely CAN teach an old dog new tricks! I started taking voice lessons with Shaina because I wanted to learn how to sing the high notes in "Amazing Grace" without squeaking. I thought I was a hopeless case, but boy, oh boy, Shaina worked with me so patiently, and helped me build my confidence and my breath support so that I could send those notes up to the rafters!!

Shaina is SO much more than an amazing vocal coach- over the seven years that I have been working with her, she has helped me expand my vocal range dramatically and build my confidence in performing! She has helped develop my songwriting, taught me about music production, and even helped me produce and mix a couple of my albums!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonOur first session is a lovely, low-pressure time to connect and learn a bit about one another. I will ask you about your experience with singing (all answers are good answers π), you will tell me about your aspirations and goals for singing, your favorite styles of music etc. If you feel comfortable in the first lesson, we will do some basic vocal warmups and gauge your current register. If you feel at ease and ready, I will have you sing your favorite song that you feel best shows off your voice. If you feel more comfortable waiting until our second session to sing for me, that is perfectly fine!
Lesson 11+Each student is unique and individual - after our initial lesson together, I will create a tailored lesson plan based upon their current level, goals and dreams!
Lesson 4-10Each student is unique and individual - after our initial lesson together, I will create a tailored lesson plan based upon their current level, goals and dreams!

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonOur first session together will be a low pressure session for us to connect, and for me to learn about your aspirations and goals as a singer. I will take you through a variety of vocal warmups and vocal agility exercises to assess your current register and range. I will have you sing 1-2 songs for me (either accompanied by a track or acapella) that you feel showcase the strongest aspects of your voice. We will discuss and agree upon lesson priorities from there!

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with kids, we still do body opening stretches, breath work and vocal exercises, but I structure and approach them in a much more game type manner (ie. Okay, now we are going to have a competition to see which of us can hold the note the longest, and whoever wins gets to choose which song we sing next!).
With kids, I like to keep the energy up, and I pace each portion differently than with adults in order to keep the kids engaged, learning, and enjoying their experience.
Working with teenagersMost often, working with teenagers means working with students with developing voices. This is an exciting time for vocal development but requires a lot of consistency in order to strengthen and build the musculature necessary for a healthy, smooth voice. I absolutely love working with students with transitioning voices, and recommend doing sessions together twice per week π.
What you need to bringA phone, laptop, or iPad with the instrumental tracks of the songs we are working on together. They should also bring a notebook and pen to notate exercises and follow-up work to be done between sessions. At times, we will do breath work that requires use of a drinking straw (plastic, metal, or cardboard all work well).
What I can bringI will provide the keyboard necessary for our warmups and vocal agility exercises.
