About your singing coach

Through my last six years of vocal coaching, I've tailored each curriculum depending on age, experience, and the student's goals. Everyone's progress and talents are unique to them, and it is my passion to pull out the uniqueness in each student and bring their musical endeavors to fruition. Your first lesson will begin with goal setting, vocal warmups, and running through a song you know. I specifically love working with aspiring artists and middle/high school students. Beginner training plan
Your first lessonOur first lesson will begin with some goal setting. What led you to want voice lessons? For fun? To prep for a special performance? Are you wanting to be a full-time singer/artist? These questions will help me determine how I can best serve you, and where to start first. We also will spend some time going over your vocal warmups which I will send on a recording for you to practice daily at home. We will then sing through a song you are already familiar with, so I can get a good read on your style, tone, technique, etc. can’t wait to get started!
Lesson 2-3On your second and third lessons, we are able to get into more of a flow. Now, we begin with some vocal warmups/vocal straw exercises, and immediately jump into whatever song you’re working on. During these lessons, we talk extensively about breathing, how relaxation aids in singing correctly, and begin learning the difference between singing in head, mix, or chest voice.
Lesson 4-10We continue learning about head, mix, and chest voice, and complete an overview of vowel placements that help bring clarity and ease to your notes. We learn that, “Singing is an extension of speaking,” and what that means. Near our tenth lesson if you haven’t already, we cover some basics for performance because the best place for you to practice what we’ve been learning is on stage!
Lesson 11+You complete your first performance. By now, I can assist you by picking some new songs that are more tailored to your voice, goals, and where I feel you need the most growth. We continue honing your technique, performance skills, and confidence.
Youth players
Working with kidsFor my 8 to 12-year-olds, I prefer to only teach them in 30 minute increments. Usually their attention spans fly out the door if we go longer. It gives you more bang for your buck, and provides a more effective lesson for them in this stage of life. I also may hold off on some of the harder techniques. Instead, we focus on singing out, breathing, and confidently performing. I consider these building blocks they can learn at any age. It will set them up for success when their voices change, and they are able to begin diving into the harder stuff.
Working with teenagersIn my opinion, this depends on the teen. Are they here to have fun? Amazing! We will have the most fun giving them an extra curricular to pour their heart into! Are they here because they want to get into theater? Great! We’ll tailor their lessons around prepping for auditions! Do they want to be the next superstar? We’ll work on finding their uniqueness and how best to bring that out in performance, song choice, and style.
