Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI get to know you first! From there, I talk about my experience, and I begin teaching music theory and/or practice depending on what your experience level necessitates.
Lesson 11+Once the student has learned the basics, we get to the fun stuff! I have some movement and emotion cards to play with, and we will get up and move around the room to help the flow of creativity.
Lesson 4-10I begin with some stretching exercises, and then we approach theory. From there, we continue on to your repertoire and begin to work through technique.
Lesson 2-3I use musictheory.net to drill weak skills, and then I play/sing through your music with you to help you learn it.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonWith advanced singers, I evaluate their level, and once we have found some skills to drill, I assign repertoire accordingly.
Youth players
Working with kidsWhen I’m working with kids, they need to be able to read. Ideally, no kids under 6.
I teach them to read music just like I would any beginner. Then, I assign them simple songs with easily accessible karaoke tracks so they can practice.
I also give the kids lots of stickers as rewards.
Working with teenagersI talk to them first, and once I’ve gotten to know their experience level, I assign repertoire and drills accordingly.
